Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Sure am not happy to hear this! “Terriers” was one of the best new shows of the season and I made sure I saw every episode — can’t say that for alot of other shows currently on TV. In today’s time of one stupid reality show after another, “Terriers” was refreshing — not only in writing and depth; but, also, in the actors who played the characters. FX made a bad call in not allowing this show to gain its foothold….maybe they will change their mind???
I really liked the quality of the serie, a shame it has to end here. Please think about it again.

I’m utterly disappointed that Terriers has been canceled. Unique, well-acted, and intriguing, something I looked forward to each week, never knowing just what to expect, which is a rare, rare thing in dramatic television today. Quirky and out of left field often – like real life often is. Shame.
YEAH, That’s right- take it off the air, it was just too good to live on… unbelievable! I loooved this show and turned on a number of friends and acquaintances to it’s greatness! Now, nothing; I feel empty and lost. I actually called Comcast and disconnected my service. I was able to watch Terriers on HULU, was that the wrong thing to do; did I contribute to it’s downfall, ****… I’m headin’ to the bar to get a drink and mourn the loss of my “friends” Hank & Britt, et al. (;~( Well, at least we still have that cool… Read more »
This was definitely one of the best shows on T.V and a little bit more advertising would have helped a lot not everybody watches fx unless all you watch is two and a half men which fx plays constantly i only watch fx to watch terriers, justified and its always sunny in Philadelphia and now there coming out with a show about a guy that wears a dog costume seriously. and im guessing there going to do a bunch of advertising and its going to get good ratings and its going to stay around for a while. and the same… Read more »
Well written, well acted, gritty and authentic- worthy of another season. Reminded me of a good read, like something written by Don Winslow. Would love to see a reconsideration of this idiotic decision to take this show off the air.
Sorry to see it go, looked forward to each episode. Want more…
Am so disappointed – I told all my friends about it. it’s the ONLY show I looked forward
to except Jeopardy! Bring it back………
SO upset….this show was brilliant…why is this canceled after the first season but crap like “two and a half men” lingers on?
I have to assume it’s because the majority of Terriers fans DVR or watched it online or something so it didn’t register as high as it could have in the ratings.
Seriously, I’m so depressed about it! TV has gotten so awful lately….they always cancel the great shows. Screw it, I’m done with TV.
Yet another example of The Dumming.
One of the best gets the axe because the controlling faction of droolers can’t wrap their pea-brains around anything more complex than screaming chefs or teen angst.
I would PAY PER VIEW to see this show continue.
Jerks.
Okay, after getting over the shock, I’m adding to my previous comments. I’m hopeful another channel/network will pick this up and run with its great potential — here are some suggestions: 1) Run it at a reasonable hour; believe it or not, some of us still have jobs and can’t stay up late. I had to religiously go to On Demand to catch up. TV execs need to think about the fact that some of us – after a tough day at work – look forward to something great to watch – instead of desperately scrolling though the Comcast menu… Read more »
That blows. so we won’t know who’s baby it is whether they get the big guy and also if they went to Mexico or not.. TOO MANY LOOSE ENDS and it was a good show.. bummers
I have followed this show avidly since I first found it. It was extremely well written and acted and BTW, I’m not in the target demographic (young and male) but usually tend to find the best shows on TV over and over. When I watched the last episode I had a funny feeling the show was over and am really disappointed. I had even expected to see it at least nominated for a Golden Globe award like at least one of my other favorites – The Good Wife. I have to agree with John M.’s comments above. I don’t usually… Read more »
This type of thing really pisses me off. I mean you cancel a good show just because it’s on FX and a lot of people don’t watch that channel and yet shows like Jersey Shore semm to thrive. I sincerely hope people rethink this decision. I’m really losing interest in TV when all that is on is just a bunch of reality show crap. Maybe if you actually promoted the show people would know it was on and would have watched it!!!!
“Terriers” was literally one of the best shows on TV. It was beautifully and cleverly written and really well acted. Everybody on that show was good – everybody. It is just incredible that it was not given another season. Seriously, it couldn’t have been expensive to produce, why not give it another shot? Also, what could FX put in that time slot – more reruns? Another original show that no body will watch because of the hour it was aired? Face it people, we are nearing the end of any sort of quality television, pretty soon it will be mass… Read more »
I’m just curious, John M., how you know that Terriers “couldn’t have been expensive to produce.”
Was it the multiple locations that tipped you off? The The car work? Stunts? Subtle but beautiful lighting and cinematography? Ensemble cast? Maybe it was the worn, casual, almost unremarkable look of the sets and wardrobe.
When you get a minute, why don’t you post your idea of a budget for a one-hour scripted drama with high production values. After all, it couldn’t be expensive to produce.
Terriers was the best show in the last 10 years. Bring it back!
