Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Are Fox and FX the same networks? Someone let me know before I pull the plug on both. Thank God for DIY & Cooking channels or I’d have nothing interesting to watch! I found FX/Terriers by rescanning my cable tiers for HD channels. It was the ONLY series I’ve watched in it’s ENTIRETY in the last 20 years. Heck, it was the only series I ever watched religiously… not even LOST got me setting my DVR for the next episode as soon as the current episode ended. I think I’ve even watched more episodes of Terriers than LOST! Truly disappointed… Read more »
@mark: Part of the same larger company.
My wife and I DVR’s the season and started watching it before the finale aired. We went through the entire season in about three days. At one point we watched about 6 episodes in a row. I really liked the show. It was different, lgith, serious, comedic, friendly, cool. I really wish it would be brought back for a second season. It was nice to have something fresh like this one tv instead of the tired and played-out reality shows and dancing/singing competitions.
My wife told me about a new series called “Terriers”. I didn’t start watching it right away, maybe because the title didn’t fit the show she was trying to describe. I finally watched a promo and liked it so much I bought season 1 of “Terriers”. I thought the show was well written, the cast and the acting was excellent, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one that couldn’t get enough of it. I watched this entire season 1 in 3 days. Please, please bring it back.
Such a shame! This was a FANTASTIC show, the best on FX! And to think they keep crap like Archer and not this. This show was the best on TV, only a dummy would get rid of it. Real cool FX, real cool.
This is a top show. Great writers and actors. The name was confusing and not reflective of the quirkiness of the show. I say give it another chance and have our to terriers turn from Mexico and head back to Ocean Beach.
We want our Terriers back!!!
Great show. Too bad. Terrific cast, crew, locale. Only the good die young.
Man-up and save Terriers…!
Good writing, good acting. “Terriers” just the latest victim to the dumbing down of American TV viewing. I expected more patience from FX…
Great show! Both my husband and I really enjoyed it. It’s too bad when good shows like this get cancelled, but the reality shows keep on coming. First Moonlight, now this.
Great show. If there’s any way to save it we should! It’s
the curse of Steve. If I like a show it’s bound to die. I guess
smart and funny doesn’t cut it. Welcome back, my friends, to the
dumbing down of America! Always glad that I’m not part of the
lowest common denominator.
Steve, my wife and I liked it as well, so we already knew it was doomed. We too, always doom shows by liking them!
Me too guys! Intelligent TV is a thing of the past!! I hate to even turn the TV on anymore b/c once you grab on the TV powers that be take it away. Why even bother anymore!
Too bad. Terriers was a great show and I looked forward to
watching it every week. Even the theme music was cool. It’s on
itunes under Gunfight Epiphany. Anyway, the show was great and the
stories were fun. I wish they could give it another season to earn
some new viewers. They need to promote it more. I watched it
initially because of the promotions that were on before the season
started.
Too bad! I was looking forward to next season, a very refreshing show because of the actors……maybe another network will pick them up with a better ad approach?
Loved this show it was hilarious and intense at the same time and just because it wasnt attracting the same as sons of anarchy they cancel it? Thats ******** and they keep shows like archer way to go fx you idiots
Once I found the show..on demand..I was hooked. I wouldn’t miss it after that. OK cop off the force ..drinking..becoming a PI …yes done before, but not this way and not with these actors. The show was new fresh and honest. It wasn’t the same old same old. I had just talked some friends into watching. Dexter didn’t catch on at first, neither did Third Rock From the Sun and it ran forseveral seasons. I really looked forward to watching Terriers and am going to miss it.
I concur. Brilliant show. Brilliant writing. Brilliant acting. Terrible advertising. Tsk! Tsk! FX!
