What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the TNT cable channel, season two of The Alienist stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Robert Ray Wisdom, Ted Levine, Melanie Field, and Rosy McEwen. The second season, aka Angel of Darkness, takes place in New York City in 1897 where Sara Howard (Fanning) has opened a pioneering private detective agency. She reunites with formidable alienist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and New York Times journalist John Moore (Evans) to find the kidnapped infant daughter of a Spanish dignitary. Their investigation leads them into a sinister path of corruption and deceit, towards a dangerous and elusive killer.
Season Two Ratings
The second season of The Alienist (aka Angel of Darkness) averaged a 0.20 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.04 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 52% in the demo and down by 41% in viewership. Find out how The Alienist stacks up against other TNT TV shows.

Will TNT cancel or renew The Alienist for season three? Angel of Darkness is based on the sequel novel by Caleb Carr. A third book has been published and a fourth, The Alienist at Armageddon, is in the works. So a third season could be based on one of those or, the producers could make an original story. TNT aired two episodes a week and season two’s ratings were quite low so, there’s a good chance there won’t be a third season anyway. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. I am hooked and I hope that we shall see a third season of the Alienist. Its one of the best series I’ve had the pleasure to watch in a long time. The story lines are intriguing and riveting they keep you on the edge of suspense hungry for the next episode. I haven’t felt this way about a show in a long time. Pretty Please TNT don’t let this show get cancelled.
Absolutely I love this show! They could not have picked a better set of actors to fill this these characters. I was so excited and happy when I found this show. I have been searching for a date for season 3 without any luck.

I love this period mystery! It’s so interesting and should definitely be renewed. Their are too many shows t h at get canceled because they don’t take place during current times. It’s a shame.
This is a great show. I love the characters and the 2 seasons were well written and so interesting. Please make a season 3 and never stop!
Yes! The Alienist should be renewed! Just keep the romantic drama to a minimum and focus on the strong characters and storylines and it should do great for those of us that love period drama and suspense! Don’t muddle it up with distractions like so many shows do—remember Castle?? I’ve read the books and they are outstanding. And with a strong and popular female lead in Dakota Fanning, me and my whole family are in for the long haul!

It’s not all based on viewings. Sometimes shows get cancelled because the actors, or the post production team fall out so badly that they have no option but to cancel. This is what happened with the Alienist.

I love this show! So interesting! I really hope TNT renews it for a third and fourth season!
I am curious to know if anyone else waits to see if shows are renewed or canceled before investing time in them. I am sure many do so, and it makes me wonder just how accurate the viewer count for a series really is or what it could be given a chance. Unless a show is a limited series and has closure, or it has been given the time to wrap up; I will not even watch it. There is nothing satisfying in watching a whole season of something and to then be left hanging.
