Last year, although The Blacklist TV show dropped a little in the Nielsen ratings 18-49 demo, it actually rose in terms of total audience size. Now that it’s back for a sixth season and the cancelled spin-off is a distant memory, can it regain some of the ground it has ceded over the years or, is this the beginning of the end for the Concierge of Crime? Will The Blacklist be cancelled or renewed for season seven? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An NBC action thriller, The Blacklist stars James Spader, Megan Boone, Diego Klattenhoff, Amir Arison, Mozhan Marnò, Hisham Tawfiq, and Harry Lennix. The crime drama centers on one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, Raymond “Red” Reddington (Spader), who offers to help the authorities if rookie agent Elizabeth Keen (Boone) partners with him. In season six, following revelations that Red is not who he claimed to be, Liz is determined to get to the truth, even while Red continues to build his empire and eliminate his rivals.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/18 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The fifth season of The Blacklist averaged a 0.93 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.66 million viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Blacklist TV series? Should this NBC TV show be cancelled or renewed for a seventh season? How many more seasons should it run?
3/11/19 update: NBC has renewed The Blacklist TV show for a seventh season.
The Blacklist is one of the best shows on television and should be renewed for a season 7 and hopefully more seasons. Many people I know only watch NBC because of the Blacklist & Chicago PD
Love this creative, engaging, dynamic series! I especially appreciate the entangled relationships among the characters. James Spader’s portrayal of Reddington is riveting, and I am not easily riveted. Events have striking surprises which keeps me guessing. I am a recent fan and would be disappointed if it were cancelled. I have resorted to Netflix as a reliable vehicle for viewing. What is with Nielsen’s resistance to changing their antiquated rating system? Their slow changes in collaboration with Netflix and others on coming up with more accurate ratings contributes to the demise of many good shows. That brings up even more… Read more »
Advertisers are the reason Nielsen is still around. You may think it’s “antiquated,” but advertisers are what pay for these shows. If people don’t watch their commercials, the studio doesn’t make money. Ad revenue is what allows the studio to keep these shows on the air. And if the studio isn’t making a profit, the show is no longer profitable. It becomes expensive to produce, and the studio cancels the show. Until someone can come up with a better way to measure the ad revenue from commercials, Nielsen isn’t going anywhere. They’ve tried to measure ad revenue by creating streaming… Read more »
Please make a season 7. I only watch NBC because of The Black List! Best show on television. I’ll continue watching NBC only if the Black List continues!
Love this show. It deserves a Season 7, the current time slot is the problem. The stories are different and Reddington is a hoot.
Yes. Love the show. Needs to be back for season 7
Love this show! Solid acting by Spader and others!
I hope there will be a season 7. This show deserves it.
Of course you need to keep The Blacklist. We are enthralled. James Spader as Red Reddington is majestically painting his masterpiece that has encapsulated all of his viewers.
I have watched every episode of the show. James Spader is a brilliant performer and it has always been a very smart show. It seems this year, you are writing it as if it is the last. I have no idea how Red will get out of his arrest. He can’t be a free civilian…nor can he spend the test of his days in prison…boring. On another hand, I am anxious to find out if he is not Raymond Eddington who is he. So I surely hope the series isn’t cancelled.
I have the same concern especially with the ratings decreasing. I think he will escape prison because i don’t think he can ever beat this trail but with Red you never know.
I wonder who they gonna say he really is.
I have a concern about blacklist , this has been moved to Friday nights and is in so much competition with other popular shows that it is in jeopardy. It would be good if nbc put popular shows on different nights of the week so we did t have to pick one show one day of the week as the rest of the week on nbc is basically poor shows.
You seem to be purposely killing a great show. I do not understand how these numbers were calculated. Do you not see the dedication of all us fans? You have moved it everywhere, except Saturday morning. There are fans all over the world. Please, do not cancel. It is the only show I watch on primetime television. A thought, many people catch it on Netflix the next day.
Best show on TV!! More people would watch if NBC would run it consistently week after week. You can’t expect people to watch if it’s a crap shoot as to when or if it is on..
You can tell just from the ratings that moving it tonFriday night was a mistake. It had a huge drop. Who the heck expects 18-30 year old people to sit in on a Friday night and watch TV. Move it back to a Thursday night. It’s an awesome show and I’d hte to see it cancelled.
Please renew this series for season 7!! This show has been moved and messed with so many times, it’s no wonder their viewership has moved to DVR and streaming after the live broadcast. This show is too good to end too soon!
Any chance to see Spader is good. I think the Liz pregnant and baby kidnapping story drove viewers away. That and Liz seems so gullible and stupid. Season 6 writing for the Liz character is better. But Spader is your star. More Raymond Reddington and screen time for Spader should bring viewers back.
