The Great Holiday Baking Show will air its season one finale on ABC later tonight, but will the network air a second season next Christmas?
Not likely, according to The Sun. The UK paper released a report that stated that ABC would be cancelling the new reality series after a drop in the ratings.
The ABC series is based on a popular BBC1 series. Mary Berry is the woman featured on both series.
The news outlet quoted an unnamed source from the network. The source said:
“This show is sinking in front of our eyes, and that is not what ABC expected to happen. To lose one in six viewers in one week is a disaster. Had the audience stuck at the four million mark, that wouldn’t have been so terrible. But the figures have just kept falling. You can’t say ABC really committed, with only four episodes made. Given these results, they aren’t likely to go for a summer series. It’s a shame, as everything Mary touches in the UK turns to gold.”
Are you a fan of The Great Holiday Baking Show? Would you want to see it again next year? Tell us what you think.
I loved the show–especially since it was filmed in the UK with Mary Berry and American bakers. I imagined myself right there, baking with them, and looked forward to each episode. Please keep the show!
Duh, of course I would watch it next year…the only decent reality show available.
yes Have it again. It can be very exciting with the right staff.
I think the male judge was too nice. He needed to add some pazzaz to the show. He just had very little charisma for this type of vehicle.
Really enjoy the show and it would be a shame to take it off..even my great granddaughter watches it. Few programs are good clean fun shows
Love the show. Would watch it again and I’m a professional baker.
The bakers were sub par. I tyhink there’s alot of great bakers in the USA. Were they basing contestant choices based on personality? If so they missed the mark on that too!
If they had better bakers it would be better to watch. I know they are amateurs, but the childish fondant “wrapping” Tim used on his presents was the best he could do, not a deliberate nod to his real present-wrapping skills. And the winner has been going downhill for the last two episodes–better bakers is the key.
I think that although the UK show is a big hit, it doesn’t translate well over in the US, mostly because people compare it to the UK show. Perhaps a new show with a different format would do better. And they really need to make sure they get great hosts for this show. They don’t necessarily have to be famous people, they just have to be genuine and funny and engaging. I am super sad because I was seriously considering auditioning next year.
The Worst. Insulting to the UK show, to bakers everywhere and to the audience. It was clearly summer when it was filmed, they pretended it snowed! They made them wear winter parkas! I love the British Show. I swear they swapped out prepared baked goods. Insulting and phony. The black lady and the gay bear I swear we’re on chopped!
Please please don’t cancel this. I loved this show this year. I’m already looking forward to seeing it again. Id even love to try out for the show. It was wonderful to watch and I wished it had been longer.
And let’s not forget they also cancelled The TASTE! I hope they do have this on again next year. I LOVE THIS kind of program at holiday time… I even watched the Gingerbread house building one on HGTV. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT.
If your a fan of the original GBBS, like I am, you never want to see it done in America again. What ruined it for me is that the bakers can’t bake! Or decorate! They seemingly took some people who made cookies and cakes and little else, and threw them on a baking show. The British version bakers are so far advanced and that made it intriguing to watch for bakers and non-bakers alike. I want to see people do what I can’t. Not what I can.
You’ve hit the trouble on the nose, I agree, better bakers is the key.
great show but do we really need childish humor from hosts? enjoy the competition and judges.
First, CBS cancelled The American Baking Competition after one season and now ABC is cancelling The Great Holiday Baking Show after one season. Why not do another version of The Great British Bake Off? They could call it The Great American Bake Off and it should be picked up by CBS or ABC or any other networks. They could make a spring/summer season and a winter season once a year for The Great American Bake Off, like NBC is doing with The Voice. And do some Easter specials/Masterclasses, Christmas specials/Masterclasses and a special episode called The Great American Wedding Cake.… Read more »
I agree with you, Jessica. CBS or ABC or any other networks should definitely make another version of The Great British Bake Off and they should definitely call it The Great American Bake Off.
I love the show and also watched the BBC version on public television. With only 4 episodes, it was not really given a chance. Can’t wait for the finale tonight.
