Debra Messing had a long and successful run on NBC on Will & Grace while later series Smash was cancelled after two seasons. How do things look for The Mysteries of Laura? Will it see a second season?
The Mysteries of Laura revolves around a brilliant-but-harried NYPD homicide detective (Messing) who must also juggle her home life, including raising her young twin boys and trying to divorce her husband. The rest of the cast includes Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, Max Jenkins, Vincent Reina, and Charlie Reina.
The series debuted in September to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.19 million viewers. It was an okay start for a new drama on NBC. The demo dropped 25% in week two while viewership dropped only slightly.
Unfortunately, the ratings have continued to drop over the course of the season. Mysteries of Laura recently hit a new series low with a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 5.82 million viewers.
The show’s ratings are poor and it could easily be cancelled. However, NBC is still having only mixed success with their overall schedule. Depending on their current crop of show pilots, their schedule problems could be enough of a reason for the network execs to renew Laura for a second season.
We’ll likely have to wait until May (when the networks announce their 2015-16 schedules) to find out if Debra Messing will be back on NBC next fall.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Mysteries of Laura? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Please keep Laura on. Thsnks
