Aside from racking up impressive series premiere ratings (thanks to a special timeslot), The Resident TV show had something of a lackluster freshman outing on FOX. After eking out a second season renewal, can it prove it is just what the doctor ordered? Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. **Status update below.
A FOX medical drama, The Resident stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jane Leeves, Glenn Morshower, and Bruce Greenwood. The series centers on resident Dr. Devon Pravesh (Dayal), as well as Senior Resident Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Czuchry), and their colleagues at the Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Although its motto is, “Committed to excellence,” the hospital is staffed with human beings, and humans are flawed. Now that Devon is on the other side of the institution’s velvet ropes, Conrad wants him to understand the reality of medicine and its delivery.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/6 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The first season of The Resident on FOX averaged a 1.02 rating and a total audience of 4.543 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Resident TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season on FOX?
*3/25/19 update: FOX has renewed The Resident for a third season.
Cancellation of this show, The Resident, is a HUGE mistake. We wait for Monday nights to watch it. Please reconsider and maybe do some better marketing. 911 is really good, too. Don’t even think about it.
I really do like this show, but I really wish they’d take some of the focus off of Emily VanCamp’s part in the show and put more on Conrad, or other actors & actresses in the show. There are so many things that I don’t care for about her and her part. First, it appears that she thinks she knows everything, even more than an experienced and licensed physician. Secondly, the amount of makeup caked on her face is absolutely horrifying. She obviously has some type of underlying skin issue if the makeup artist has to use that much makeup… Read more »
