TV show description:
From creator Alexi Hawley, The Rookie TV show is an hourlong comedy-drama that centers on John Nolan (Fillion). After a life-changing experience, this small-town guy decides to do just that — change his life.
Now, John is working toward his dream of being a Los Angeles police officer. The thing is, he is the oldest rookie on the LAPD, and the brass looks at him like the embodiment of a midlife crisis.
John’s co-workers include Talia Bishop (Williamson), a new training officer, and he’s her first student. The other training officers include the high-handed Tim Bradford (Winter) and Angela Lopez (Diaz), who is shooting to become a detective trainee.
Rounding out the cast of characters are rookies Lucy Chen (O’Neil), Jackson West (Makin), Sergeant Wade Grey (Jones), and Nolan’s C.O. Zoe Andersen (Mason).
If John fails to keep up with his young colleagues, as well as young criminals, he will be putting lives at risk, including his own. Maybe though, he can use the experience he’s gained with age, and the determination he has developed over the years, to make a real go of it. Either way, he’s got a secret weapon — his sense of humor.

What do you think? Do you like The Rookie TV series? Should this TV show be cancelled or renewed for another season on ABC?
Generally I like most any show that Nathan Fillion is in, being a hard core Fire Fly/Serenity fan from waaaay back. Not only is this a unique premise for a TV show, it allows for a variety of situations where the characters can interact. The writers for the show have given us characters with depth, and have the ability to place them in diverse scenarios. Love it!
Both my husband and I love this series. We haven’t missed one of them. We love all the characters in the show. The episodes are getting better and better. Please continue this program for years and years. Nancy
I really hope this show is renewed. It is very well done.
I like the show and hope they renew it.
Keep it because it shows another side of law enforcement that others don’t always get to see.
Excellent writing and acting in this series.
Cancel. The politics of the show will not align with the future of this country.
I’m amazed at how many times I found myself cringing while watching this. It’s a waste of Nathan Fillion’s talents (IMO).
They jumped the Shark…season over for me
Yes, renew The R9okie! John Nolan became an officer to help people. He has a core of caring and wanting to do the right thing. The lying issue has to be resolved though.
the Rookie, appears to be hanging on by a thread. Fighting the 9-1-1 also taking place in L.A. these series are packed with so many characters, story-lines and sub-plots, that American Studio casting calls, must be going on around the clock, just to keep up. When you consider that during the 1960 and 1970 series, casts were mostly carried by information given by the characters and it was rare that enforcers even pulled their side-arms, except during range-practice. Studio casting characters are now firing 60 rounds from 30 round magazines and 1 in the chamber, hitting every vehicle and building,… Read more »
Nathan Fillion is always wonderful. Characters likable. I take issue with the non-realistic way they handle injuries to characters. These guys take baseball swings to the head, bullets to the head, nothing hurts them. Is it something in the water in LA?
Please renew this show! Nathan Fillion is great but so are all the other characters. Talia and Lucy are very endearing! The episodes are well written and I care about the characters. This is appointment TV!
I think that the advance Previews of “The Rookie” were false advertising. The producers are only USING Fillion as a draw by calling him “the star”. He hardly has a starring role. His character is never fleshed out, because he’s given so little “screen time”! If he is the star (the main character) he should have at least 80% of the screen shots. There are too many people (characters) in play, especially too many women! I am a woman, and I want to see Nathan Fillion get the greatest percentage of on-air time! If you don’t get rid of most… Read more »
I like the Rookie because the show demonstrates a gentle personality- a professional, rational and thinking personality which you would expect all policemen to possess initially. The Rookies are exposed to experiences which help them grow and develop that may bring out their best or worst. Will make them more jaded and cautious of course or more fearful or more confident. Nathan brings these qualities and emotions in the show which I think I would be feeling if I were in his shoes. We have all been Rookies, maybe not quite so intense
The Rookie is the best new show in ages.
As a retired cop this show is great.
It’s a great show until he lied. He swore an oath and he should of told the truth no matter what the consequences. Even if it cost him his job or his partners job. It happened to me but I still have my integrity.
