*5/10/2021 update: When Calls the Heart has been renewed for a ninth season on Hallmark Channel.
As far as I’m concerned they can cancel the series!!! It’s a huge let down the way they built up a love story for Elizabeth and Nathan for season 6&7 to turn around and flip the script at the last minute and put her with Lucas it’s sickening!!!!! I along with many others will not be watching! And it’s very disheartening that Brian Bird would call TN trolls how dare he !!!!!!!!!!! If it wasn’t for the viewers there would be no series! They flipped the script and assassinated Elizabeth’s character and the true love story which was ALWAYS Nathan… Read more »
I have never felt such anxiety watching a Hallmark production. The writer turned the heartwarming series into a ridiculous and poorly written soap opera. According to all reports, Hallmark made the decision to “Flip The Script” at the 11th hour…thus rewarding the shady, illusive, and mysterious character the “prize” of winning the battle of the love Triangle. The noble Mountie was kicked to the curb in a devastating and hurtful statement from the female role in the Triangle. When Calls The Heart show is based on the book of the same name, written by Janette Oke…A story of a female… Read more »
This whole season was a disappointment. I have been an avid, loyal fan for years, and this season has turned me away from the show. I never thought I would say that about this show that I loved. The writing was disjointed. There was a darker feel to the season as a whole (definitely some bright spots, but fewer and farther between than all other seasons). The finale was a disaster of poor writing that did not line up with the rest of the season or S6-7.
WCTH Season 8 complete deviation from Hallmark values. Writing choppy, & without continuity. Love Triangle dragged out for three months with the “chosen” one being the shady character, and the loser being the noble and selfless Mountie. Hallmark, TPTB, and show runner completely derailed this beautiful show. I have no desire to watch future seasons if immediate changes are not made.
I have watched WCTH since day 1…for 8 seasons…cheering for Elizabeth and her Mountie…NO LONGER…she has chosen a saloon running gambler. I am a broken Heartie. I don’t know what Hallmark or TPTB are doing but it is no longer the same lovable show it used to be for me. It has gone from “MUST SEE” to “CAN’T LOOK AT IT”!! Literally does not hold the same appeal to me it used to. Season 8 was the worse!! So many plot holes and unexplained scenes. I am done with WCTH.
I always enjoy the wonderful actors on WCTH. However, this season disappointed for many reasons…loose threads everywhere, storylines introduced but never finished (Rachel getting lost, Lucas hiring Henry’s son – how did Lucas know they had a estranged relationship?, Elizabeth cancelling the family dinner with Nathan and Allie, the resurrection of the Pinkertons, Jesse getting lost AGAIN (so where was he and why get lost again?) etc.), contradictions in characters’ arcs (Elizabeth the nasty? Nathan the clown (hurting his finger chasing his hat)? . The finale was disappointing – honestly Elizabeth, you see Jack in Nathan? And not in Lucas… Read more »
When Calls The Heart is a beautiful series filled with stories that spark hope , love , and faith. Season 8 was beautifully written , produced and acted! Season 8 was different compared to Seasons 1-7 yet still had the same heartfelt storylines! Have nothing but wonderful things to say about this season and this series and looking forward to Season 9!
I have enjoyed many seasons of this show but unfortunately season 8 was not well written. Many stories came out of nowhere, were not fully developed and then disappeared without being fully resolved. I was disappointed in the season because of this and also I felt the writers weren’t true to the characters and history of the show.
Horrible writing & editing with a flipped script that didn’t follow the storyline for the past 3 seasons – horrible choices by all including Elizabeth!
The series ended after season 7. I’m done with this show. I never thought I’d say that.
The show has gone too far away from the values and morals it used to portray. Now it’s just a soap opera. The writers lied and manipulated viewers the entire season for ratings. They put the lead character through hell to the point it was almost sadistic. This show should be cancelled or the name changed. What a disgrace!
Not sure why Hallmark thinks turning WCTH into a confusing soap opera in Season 8 was a good move. We now know that the ending was changed the day before they finished filming, and it SHOWS. Whoever a main character picks at the end of a love triangle should be a believable choice. But since they were originally going in one directing and then changed at the last minute, the whole season is a confusing flop. Not to mention so many random story lines that were never resolved.
I no longer have any interest in the series. Season 8 was a mess and deliberately deceptive. They turned the heroine into a weak, selfish, narcissistic character and paired her with the most boring on screen character I’ve seen in a good long while. They portrayed a child character as a selfish brat, turned her scenes from what would have been wonderful foreshadowing and insight if her uncle had been chosen into awful controlling tantrum scenes when he was rejected. Most characters were unrecognisable from previous seasons. Repeated stories from previous seasons. It was disjointed and chaotic. Not going to… Read more »
Story did not reflect her pick very disappointed.
When Calls the Heart was my favorite show. It has now been turned into a soap opera. Viewers were misled all season for ratings. They could of had Elizabeth pick a honrable brave man. Instead the writers chose a slick saloon owner. Season 8 was not great at all.
