Week two didn’t bring any positive news in the demo department. The show dropped 14% to a 1.2 rating. Total viewership remains healthy however with 8.18 million, more than doubling what the other networks had.
Season average: 1.3 demo with 8.81 million.
Episode 01-01: Friday, 9/23/11
The first episode registered a 1.4 in the 18-49 demographic and 9.45 million total viewers. It was in second place for the timeslot, behind Kitchen Nightmares in the demo. However, A Gifted Man easily won the timeslot in terms of total viewers, attracting nearly as many viewers as NBC, ABC, and CW combined.
Year-to-year, Gifted Man matched now-cancelled Medium’s demo number but improved on total viewership by more than 50%. CBS cancelled Medium with an average 1.4 rating so this wasn’t a great start.

These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

Loved this show from the beginning. The actors are terrific. It seems hasty to not give the show a chance to gain some momentum. With so much other crap on the air (like the idiotic reality shows), at least give those of us with a brain something interesting and informative to watch. Please keep ‘A Gifted Man’ on the air.

I forgot about the ghost aspect: Patrick Wilson and Jennifer Ehle are such stellar, subtle actors. The shows themes are important today, the writing and direction are deft and understated. All the actors so good — welcome Eriq Lasalle.
We hope that CBS sticks with this program! It’s the only new program we watch.

With so much junk on TV, this show is actually a breath of fresh air. Good writing, and great acting. The premise sounded a bit hokey to me at first…..gifted surgeon haunted by his ex-wife. However, they are playing the wife role sort of as Michael’s “conscience” and do not have her as the main focus of the show which actually works well. The acting of the supportive roles and guest stars is also excellent. Love the anesthesiologist, Victor Lantz and want to see more of him. There’s nothing wrong with the show’s viewership….. it’s a Friday night, people! The stars of the show are gifted actors. That being said, they need a little work on the scripts. Ehle who is probably one of the most talented actresses people have never heard of before (she’s I believe a Tony Award winner and played a wonderful Elizabeth Bennett in the BBC’s production of Pride and Prejudice) needs to have more to do….. this woman has talent. I love the show and demands it stay on!
No more heated arguing between the two stars and have them WORK TOGETHER. If that doesn’t happen, than I think the show will be cancelled. Also I won’t watch it anymore.
Considering the showrunners’ backgrounds, and what they’ve said in interviews, the show is going to get more medically focused, so I really hope people give it a chance. I’m really tired of decent shows being axed because people have no patience beyond the second half of the second episode.
Or, you know, go ahead and watch more reality like Bridezillas.

I decided to give this show another chance last Friday. I watched the premiere and didn’t care for it but the Sept. 30th episode was actually pretty good mainly because the ghost wasn’t around much. The annoying ghost wife only appeared for a few quick cameos during the show. If they keep her in the background as they did last Friday, the show might actually have a chance at succeeding. Tried it once, won’t again. Just another rehash of Medium, Ghost Whisperer. If the guys wife couldn’t influence him when she was alive, you think her appearance as a ‘ghost’ will.
