NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
I am very disappointed Allegiance was cancelled. From the first episode, this show intrigued me. It was very well acted by all cast members. I find this Russian spy series much more enjoyable and interesting to watch than FX The Americans. Bad decision NBC!!!
This show was another 24 in the making. Sorry to see it canceled. And where it ended? Good grief! Totally unacceptable, NBC!
We loved Allegiance!! Why cancel a great show and leave us hanging? Big mistake…. boo NBC!!
We loved allegiance. How could they cancel it in the middle of the series. We are very disappointed and won’t watch nbc again. We never watched it before we watched allegiance.
Never mind the cancellation of the Allegiance series. It’s time to say it is bothersome to see CIA rookie been taped n bugged all along with no knowledge. Considering every move the rookie takes is always well handled ahead before the CIA getting their hands on / arriving at the scene. And they never question why nor questioning if there is a leak somewhere. The first four episodes I watched is boring n non challenging as if the viewers are fooled to see every plot failed with no followup actions. The lab top taken from the vault inside the building… Read more »
I am so disappointed in NBC for cancelling Allegiance. The show should at least be able to finish the 1st season, maybe by moving to a different night. NBC wonders why their ratings are so low, the cancelling of this show may be one reason. Another problem with NBC ratings is the fact that they are “yesterday” in their early morning programs. The Today Show is a prime example. Matt Lauer as a host is so dull! ABC’s GMA is upbeat and has such a diverse group of people, it makes the show more relative to what’s happening today. BTW… Read more »
Although they cancelled airing of the show, apparently all of the episodes already filmed (I assume 13) are available. I just saw episode 8, and its getting really intense. I like the program more that season 2 of The Blacklist. The show is available on Comcast’s In Demand where I am. What I don’t understand, is if it doesn’t have the ratings for NBC, why can’t they sell the rights to another Network that doesn’t have such high ratings standards and can afford to show reruns. Many shows aren’t popular because if you miss an episode, you are lost. Since… Read more »
i just watched the last episode where Michelle gets shot, and now you are going to leave the viewers hanging??? The is like who shot JR on Dallas! The writers and cast of this show are excellent. I am sure a lot of planning when into finding young actors who could speak Russian. You released it in February….did you ever think that maybe people go on vacation in the dead of winter. I am so tired of all of the lame sitcoms! You pulled the plug before you even gave it a chance! Please rethink your decision and bring the… Read more »
Yes, Michelle appears to be killed, but that was episode 8, so you must not be watching show directly on NBC, because it was stopped before episode 6.
Hopefully we will be able to continue watching through episode 13.
Its one of my favorite shows on TV.
I think NBC made a mistake by putting Allegence and Blacklist on Thursday. They should have picked Wednesday or Friday when the competition isn’t so stiff. Don’t make us suffer for poor executive decisions. At least finish the season for your loyal watchers.
Thanks
Both my wife and I are huge fans of Allegiance. Of course the 18 – 49 demographic doesn’t get it. They don’t recognize the historical relevance and truth of the series. The least NBC can do is to air the final episodes.
I’m extremely disappointed with the cancellation of the show,it was a very good show and we should have the opportunity to see the complete season, I’m not watching ABC anymore
Get rid of The Slap and bring Back Allegiance!!! Great new show, give it another chance.
It had a great time slot after The Blacklist, put it back there.
Too bad- loved the show- maybe NBC will air the remaining episodes in the summer instead of repeats!
This was a good show that should have at least been able to finish season 1. Was never a NBC watcher before, now I am not again.
First of all, The Slap is mini-series, so you don’t need canceling, it will be only one season of 8 episodes, i think. Second, Allegiance comes in bad times, this kind of spy-drama have to come on TV on summer or in september, not after New Year…
How totally rude to leave the loyal viewers hanging. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and hope you reconsider. Many would like to see the remaing episodes
