There won’t be a second season of American Odyssey. To little surprise, NBC has cancelled the dramatic TV series after 13 episodes.
On the American Odyssey TV show, an international cover-up explodes when the lives of a female Special Forces soldier, a disillusioned corporate lawyer, and a political activist from a privileged family unexpectedly collide. The cast includes Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, Jim True-Frost, Sadie Sink, Omar Ghazaoui, Nate Mooney, Elena Kampouris, Daniella Pineda, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Treat Williams.
The series had a lackluster debut and the ratings got much worse as the weeks progressed. The 13 installments ended up averaging a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with fewer than three million viewers. The finale aired this past Sunday.
Series creator Adam Armus tweeted, “Thanks to the devoted fans of #AmericanOdyssey. I loved the tweets, the artwork and the emotional support. #odellelives in our [heart]️ always!” and “#AmericanOdyssey is not renewed for next season. The stories live on in here [head] and in here [heart]️! [Bravo] to the fantastic cast, crew and the fans!”
Of the cancellation, executive producer Peter Horton tweeted, “As you all know we have bn canceled. Had we been on cable wld have bn a hit Thx to all of u for bing our audience #thebest #AmericanOdyssey” and then, “#AmericanOdyssey Heartbreaking. But you all have been the best. xo”
Actor Treat Williams wrote, “American Odyssey has been a great experience. Thank you Peter, Adam, Kay,and a lovely cast for a great season. Thank you NBC for the gig.”
What do you think? Did you like the American Odyssey TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled it or renewed the series for a second season?
I loved this show so much and I hate that is was cancelled. It was just as good as Homeland and I watch the entire season in a week. Please bring it back. Great storyline.
We enjoyed it and wonder what season two would have done with the story.
Hate to see Aslam wandering off alone. Hate to see Col. Glenn’s arrogant disloyalty endure. Hate to see Odelle all alone in the throng of passersby knowing she is a target.
Love, though, the bad-guy Luc as savior and stereotype-breaker.
And love the disturbing unfolding of how power and greed grip the fabric of our culture.
Thanks for such a wily Odyssey!
I thought it was a great show. Quite gripping and I am very disappointed that it has been cancelled.
I did not see the show on TV, but I watched one episode after another on Netflix.
I was hoping for a second season. It was a gripping and entertaining show, well-written, well-acted, well-produced. I am sorry it was canceled.
I am so disappointed it was canceled. It’s a good show. Is there any chance the producers will change their mind?
Started watching this a couple of days ago now I’m up to 11 and I can’t believe it has been cancelled I have found it completely addictive. My daughter has now started watching it and is yet to find out there is no season 2 . Someone should rethink this!
I’m from China, do you know how rare and hard a Chinese guy would find a long way here and post a complaint? American Odyssey is really good, I love it so much, thanks for the work of the writer, director and all the cast members.
Hope for the next season.
By the way, could I’ve just spoken on behalf of our 1.3 billion people? ^_^
We loved American Odyssey! The cancelation is a real disappointment.
I could list a dozen shows NBC could dump and they wouldn’t be missed.
Network needs to rethink this.
It got a hold on you over the 13 episodes and now we are left in mid-air after following emotionally the lives of those we liked. A great pity and disappointment
Big mistake; this was a first class show!!!
Really enjoyed this series and watched it over two days, found it riveting. Very disappointed that there is nothing to follow. Enjoyed both the plot and the acting, the characters seemed like really believable, and the main ones very likeable. Shame.
I was so disappointed with the cancellation of this series! I turned many of my friends on to this program & now they’re upset with me for getting them involved. I think it came too close to reality & that was the reason for its’ demise! Think about it!
Hi I’m from Australia & only got to see this excellent series in JUNE 2016…The characters are wonderful & the plots intriguing..so I’m sad to see it go so soon…can only hope another network picks it up & runs with….hears hoping from the other side of the world…cheers
I watched all episodes over two days and lost much sleep. I thought it was the best series I have watched and I’ve see a lot of them. I can’t understand why the ratings were so low during the regular season. If this series had been a Netflix orHBO production, I think the series would have gone more than one season. If you haven’t watched it, do so – you won’t be disappointed.
I have never heard of American Odyssey until I happened to watch it on Netflix. I could not stop watching it, I watched all 13 episodes in 3 days and I loved it!! I think it was well done, great story, great characters and very addictive. I just happened to go online to see when Season 2 would air and I am shocked that this show was CANCELLED?!!!!!! Come on Netflix pick it up and do another season.
I totally agree
This was a great show. Just finished it on Netflix. Very well done and appropriate for the times we live in. Netflix should pick it up like they did Longmire. Network TV has killed a lot of good shows. Cheers ran for 10 years on NBC because they gave it chance. It had low rating too at first. NBC just did not have the guts to run it again.
