Hallmark wants to give Abby’s and Evan’s relationship a little more time. The cable channel has renewed the Chesapeake Shores TV series for a sixth and final season. The fifth season finished airing in October.
A Canadian-American drama, the Chesapeake Shores TV series stars Meghan Ory, Treat Williams, Diane Ladd, Robert Buckley, Barbara Niven, Laci J. Mailey, Emilie Ullerup, Brendan Penny, and Andrew Francis. The story explores the lives of the O’Brien family, after the homecoming of eldest daughter Abby O’Brien (Ory), a high-powered career woman and divorced mother of two. Over the past few seasons, Abby has leaned on her family to strike a balance between her professional and personal lives. The fifth season saw her coming into her own as her father Mick’s (Williams) new business partner and facing a new challenge when successful and eccentric entrepreneur Evan McKenzie (Buckley) brings a new development project into town.
Airing on Sunday nights, the fifth season of Chesapeake Shores averaged a 0.10 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.46 million viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 46% in the demo and down by 14% in viewership in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. The series is the lowest-rated of Hallmark’s limited slate of original scripted shows.
Here’s the sixth season renewal announcement. Based on the cast listed, it appears that Ladd won’t be returning.

I love this show sad to hear it’s the final series
I have enjoyed the series very much until you broke Abby and Chase up. They should have stayed together…
You let Jesse walk, that’s why the ratings dropped. Simple as that. Your ruined the whole dynamic of the show.
The ratings dropped because Season 4 aired TWO YEARS ago – since then five new streaming services premiered – that is what is taking viewers away from cable – CS still ended up the #1 scripted series on cable.
The characters of Chesapeake Shores have become my friends over the years. I will be very sad when it’s over. I will miss everyone very much.
The article said that viewership was down considerably. May be because no one knew when it came back on. The only way I knew a new season was on was because my DVR was still set to record it. There was a huge break between the last two seasons and many people didn’t think it would come back.
Great family entertainment, which we have so so little of today. Enough with the crime series. More shows like cheesapeak and wcth.
Please don’t let this be the last season. Keep on producing.
I miss Trace (Jesse Metcalf), but I also love every character on this show. I was so excited when my husband told me Chesapeake Shores is coming back, but sad it will be the final season. I hope they do the show justice and make it the best season of them all. (By the way my last name is O’Brien, so I feel an extra connection to this family.)
I hope they do so well they will just have to continue making more.
I love the show. Jesse mad it more interesting, but it’s a great show. I would love for it to stay on ♥️
Please do not end this show!! I’ve watched it right from the start, and Its great. Why start all these wonderful shows, that people enjoy, just to end them so fast?? This show surely isn’t at a place to give it a ending.. I’d like to see if the parents are going to renew their relationship? I mean each actor or actress are in different relationships, and different situations going on in their own lives, and I’d like to see what’s going to happen with all of them. I was so hoping that maybe Jesse Metcalfe. would return and marry… Read more »
True…
I’m thrilled there will be a Season 6!!!! YAAAAAAAA! Thank you!
I wanted Trace and Abby together. I lost interest when Trace left.
You missed a great season. Trace was boring
I loved the series. An Sad it won’t be renewed
I love the series and hate it is ending. I have not missed one episode yet.
I have watched the show from it’s first session, they didn’t have enough new programs for the public to understand the new program.
I’ve watched from beginning and LOVE it !!!! Excited for another season….please not last one!!!
I did enjoy the series until “Trace” left the show. It’s just not the same without him. Since the 6th season will be the last, I’m hoping he will come back and marry Abby. Any chance?
They certainly belong together!!!!
