Constantine aired only one season on NBC before it was cancelled, but fans of the series will have the chance to see John Constantine, played by Matt Ryan, once again. The character will appear on next week’s episode of Arrow on CW, and Ryan teased some about the character’s involvement on the series and the lengths the producers of the CW series went to for Constantine to appear.
The plan to have Constantine to appear on Arrow was thought of before NBC cancelled the series, but it took a lot of work behind the scenes to make it happen after the show ended. Matt Ryan had moved on from Constantine and was getting ready for a play. His schedule almost prevented him from appearing. TV Insider shared his comments.
“They moved heaven and Earth to get me here. I was starting rehearsals for a play [Thérèse Raquin] with Keira Knightley in New York on the first of September. And originally, where the episode sat in the season, I wouldn’t have been able to do it because of my schedule. But everybody just pulled together and moved some things around and really made it work.”
Why is Constantine coming to Arrow? His knowledge is needed. On the last episode, Sara Lance was resurrected from the dead with a little help from the Lazarus Pit. She did not come out as herself though, and Team Arrow will need John’s help.
Ryan teased a bit more about the appearance, but he could not reveal many details. He did tease that Oliver and John do have a past. John owes Oliver for something. However, that something was not revealed.
The situation with Sara is definitely out of Team Arrow’s norm. She died early on in season three. Ryan talked a bit about Constantine’s interactions with Oliver and his team.
“John knows that there are worlds beyond our world, and he is used to dealing with these things on a day-to-day basis. So bringing him into a scenario with a group of people who have never witnessed anything like this is just fascinating. And John is an arrogant bugger too, so they are a little bit thrown off by him. You know, he’s the guy who will give the finger to the devil. So you have this arrogant, trench-coat-wearing guy…and Oliver Queen. It’s great.”
Are you excited to see Matt Ryan as Constantine on Arrow? Are you still upset that Constantine was cancelled? Tell us what you think.
Constantine was a great show and I’m sorry to see it gone. The cross over to Arrow is a great connection. Hoping it leads to more.
Well Constanine fans here’s a little shot in the arm for all of us!
Next week, ElRey network will start airing the show with what I would assume is some of the cancelled series footage origanally aired over on NBC. My thinking is if ElRey can gain some veiwership and reaction from fans it might push the production to go back into producing again. That combined with the character making an appearence on “Arrow” next week as well…seems to me there’s a lot of effort to bring this show “back on line” as it were! Fingers crossed!!
a am excited to see matt but am still mad that Constantine was cancled i loved the show but it is good to see matt back again i hope it will get the show back on
He’s such a brilliant actor in this role, I really need to see him play Constantine weekly for many, many seasons. The whole cast was just great!
just found out Constantine has been cancelled and I’m going nuts. I have being waiting for the season two for nothing. very sad to know that it has been cancelled. I really really loved the series.
Yes, I am very excited to see Constantine on Arrow!! I loved the series and wished they hadn’t canceled it. I really do wish they would bring it back, or go to another company.
It would be fantatic if this cameo could restart the Constatine show. It was really good but NBC had no faith. I am looking forward to seeing the character again and the way this actor plays him. I liked the movie with Keanu Reeves as well.
I loved Constanine and hated to see it go. If John can come back for an episode or three every year or two it would be incredible. Of course, I mean Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl. John could tie them all together.
Yes let the cw pick it up. I thought things was just getting interesting and poof show cancelled bring back constantine
Cancellation of Constantine without a final conclusion was a huge mistake. Very upset and disappointed.
Brilliant character played by a very good actor & supporting cast..needs to be picked up by another network ..Can’t wait to see constantine on Arrow which I also watch..hopefully the ratings make a Constantine revival !!!
I’m still upset they canceled Constantine
but very excited to see him on Arrow
I would love to see them bring the show back.
Yes I’m still upset that NBC cancelled Constantine it was supposed to have 22 episodes they cut it down to 13 then gave it the ax, I hope the ratings will be high enough for the CW to pick up Constantine it would be so awesome if it became a huge hit and went on to season 5 after NBC giving up on it, the producers should have gone to the CW in the first place they never would have cancelled it, look at Supernatural it’s in Season 11.
Yes but, if CW already has a hit series with supernatural, why would they want another Magic/Sorcery show?
NBC totally missed the boat by not renewing Constantine!!!! It was a great show! It will be nice to see him on Arrow continue his character a to some degree!
I am very excited to see Constantine on Arrow!! I watched the series CONSTANTINE when it was on NBC. I think it would have done better on another network. It was a FANTASTIC show! I LOVE the character he played. I really hope some network picks it back up. It was really a great show and you’ll love how well he played it. Some network PLEASE pick it up for a series. PLEASE..
