ABC has made a decision about the fate of their new Conviction TV show. The network has decided not to order any episodes beyond the initial 13 episodes. Has the series been cancelled? Could it return for a second season?
A legal drama series, Conviction follows what happens when attorney Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the daughter of a former President, gets “blackmailed” into joining the Conviction Integrity Unit. It’s a NYC department that re-examines cases when there is suspicion of wrongful conviction. The rest of the cast includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
It’s no secret that the Conviction series has been struggling in the ratings. The series debuted in October to a disappointing 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.17 million viewers. The numbers saw a sizable drop in week two and got even worse in later weeks. This week’s installment fell to a new low with just a 0.6 in the demo and 3.64 million.
Deadline reports that ABC isn’t ordering any additional episodes but the network hasn’t officially cancelled Conviction. They’re keeping their options open by keeping the cast under contract, just in case they want to order a second season. This scenario will sound familiar to fans of other ratings-challenged ABC dramas from years past. Typically these shows don’t end up being renewed, many viewers about them, and they are quietly cancelled in May.
For now, ABC is expected to air the remaining eight episodes of Conviction. However, with such poor ratings, it seems unlikely that they’ll keep it in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot.
It’s worth noting that the network recently cut the episode order for their low-rated Thursday night series, Notorious.
What do you think? Do you like the Conviction TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Please keep the show. Very diverse cast. Plot lines are great and all the different.
The show should be renewed for a new season but do not put it against Shonda Rhimes on Thursday nights.
Good plot. Actors keep you guessing.
I loved it. It was just soooo many NEW shows all at once I think it got lost in the shuffle.
I started watching this on Hulu and I am SOOOOOOO bummed that it is not still being filmed. I loved it. It was smart and sexy without too much gore. I never knew who was going to be guilty and THAT is unusual.
KEEP THE SERIES!!!!!!!!!
Please continue this series! Really thought it combined social justice with current events and well crafted story lines. Also enjoyed series Notorious! Both deserve to be continued.
Seriously!!! Please renew. Love this show, just as I, and many others below, look forward to a new show the network cancels? Do the ratings take into account the number of people that DVR the show or live viewers?
Please bring back!
Please save this show. Really like the show and the cast
This shows awesome, there should def. be a second season! Why do they cancel such great shows, who cares about the ratings, as long as their are viewers that are intersected in this show that’s all that matters! What about us, the people that actually love the show, don’t We matter! And why does season 1 only have 13 episodes, but other similar shows go up to 22 episodes, maybe that’s why the ratings are so bad, bec 13 episodes that’s to small of a number for 1 season! It’s not like it’s a movie show that has a story… Read more »
Yes. It is an amazing show and love the cast. The stories are compelling and interesting. Our whole family watches together. Please do not cancel the show, otherwise; I will watch NBC.
Conviction should definitely be renewed. Great cast & the stories are very relevant to tiday’s society. I agree with others who’ve stated that cancelation of this show, which has substance, will only add to the demise of regular network viewing. Bring Hayes, Wallace & the others back!!!!!!!
just as i began to enjoy a program your network has you cancel it . you cancelled the show Castle, and now you cancelling this one . Its a wonder why people are going to the cable channels because they give the audience a chance to get interested with show. This is one of the reasons why network television is becoming so passe.
Please keep this show. It a really great show.
Please keep this show
