As you may recall, ABC recently announced that they were reworking their Wednesday night schedule (in preparation for the return of Fox’s American Idol). That left fans of Day Break out in the cold as the Taye Diggs series would be pulled from the schedule after the December 27th episode had aired. There was some hope and speculation that the series would be moved to another night. We now know that’s not going to happen.
The Lost-replacing series Day Break has been pulled from the schedule even earlier than expected. The ratings for Day Break have continued to fall since its debut and the latest was no exception. The sixth episode, entitle “What If They Find Him,” attracted only 3.1 million households. As a result, ABC has yanked the drama effective immediately. Repeats of George Lopez and According to Jim will fill 8-10pm Wednesdays for the next two weeks (both sitcoms begin new seasons in January on Wednesday nights).
There are seven unaired episodes and, as of now, there are no plans to air them on the network (joining fellow dramas The Nine and Six Degrees). The good news is that ABC has said they will post the remaining episodes online, with a new episode being posted every Thursday for the next seven weeks. They may decide to release the episodes for purchase online via iTunes but I’m guessing that will have a lot to do with viewer demand.
First they cancelled Kevin Hill & now Daybreak has been cancelled. I am very disappointed because it was such a good show. There aren’t many good shows on TV these days & it’s unfortunate that this was the one that couldn’t be moved to another night, like Tuesday or Friday…It’s the network’s loss.
This show was the bomb!!!!
Taye Diggs is the man and that whole crew on “Day Break” always got me glued to my set. What a waste of everything!
ABC got no choice but to bring it back. The show’s intellectual, you ‘digg’!!!!!!
Don’t worry DayBreak fans, the show will get picked up by another Network, most likely on cable. This time of year the advertisment fees are at thier highest premium. Viewership is proof that will justify the fees. This was the wrong time of year to launch DayBreak to begin with, and the rotation slot was a huge gamble for ABC, but they were betting on getting a bigger share of the sci-fi fans still waiting around for Lost. The rule in advertising is “stick with what works”! The sitcoms attract a “certain” demographic that advertisers prefer based on sales! The… Read more »
Come on! You’ve got to be kidding! This is 5 million viewers who are now angry at ABC. Boycott! Bring this back. Who is going to watch these sitcom reruns?
everybody should go to http://abc.go.com/site/contactus.html to demand the airing the future episodes on ABC.com at the very least.
I just don’t understand the point of cancelling a show that you’ve already paid the money for and replacing it with other re-runs that won’t do any better anyway. And I really don’t understand why they keep cancelling all these shows without letting them come to some sort of resolution. I mean they did the same thing with Invasion, The Nine, and now Day Break. I just can’t figure out their reasoning.
Can someone try to find the e-mail address for the ABC programing department. From the posts here and general conversations with people, there is alot of disappointment with this show being discontinued. Like many of the posters here there are not many shows that I get into. “24”, “The Wire”, “4400”, “Brotherhood”, “Rome”, and “Daybreak” were the only shows recently that i really anxiously waited to watch each week. Of these shows only “24” is considered a hit. But “24” in it’s first year was nowhere near the popularity of it’s second season. Why?? Because FOX had the B*ll’s to… Read more »
I too was a BIG Fan of Day Break it reminded me of Prison Break…….its a darn shame that you really are afraid to get interested in a show, because it might get pulled. The viewer’s didn’t even get to vote on this. Makes you wonder who the NUTS are that are TRYING to run ABC, really knows what the people want to watch………as far as I’m concern, they need to take off the show “LOST”, it reminds me of another reality show, and we certaintly don’t need another one of those BORING shows on TV. It just makes you… Read more »

I can’t believe it was cancelled I came home from my basketball game on Wednesday ready to watch it after seeing last week’s preview and it wasn’t on.
I started watching Day Break from the beginning and in the back of my mind feared its cancellation. The episodes were always so similar, that I didn’t feel like we accomplished much every week. Yet still, I was extremely bummed out that its gone. I’m really glad they’re at least putting them online so we can find out how it ends.
this is awful the show was groundhogs day meets er. Nielson ratings are rediculously outdated and inaccurate. Show was amazing
thats great for you guys in the U.S, but us in the U.K can’t watch them on abc.com. Maybe there will be a DVD set…
Has anyone else tried to watch last night’s episode online? As far as I can tell the episodes offered end with 12/13/06. Didn’t ABC promise to make them available each Thursday morning until they get through all of the 13 that were shot?
Too many ABC cancelations. Why would anyone want to risk starting to watch any new ABC shows in the future if there is over a 50% chance it will be pulled before the end?
