What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the ABC television network, The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore, Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper, Tamlyn Tomita, and Richard Schiff. The medical drama comes from from House creator David Shore and Lost vet Daniel Dae Kim and is based on a South Korean series of the same name.
The Good Doctor centers on Dr. Shaun Murphy (Highmore), a new surgical resident with autism and savant syndrome. His incredible memory and keen ability to perceive spatial relations inform Shaun’s gifted comprehension of his patients. Meanwhile, his autism can hinder his ability to communicate with others. With only the help of his advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Schiff), Shaun must challenge the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital’s board and medical staff, in order to do his job and save lives.

Telly’s Take
Will The Good Doctor be cancelled or renewed for season two on ABC? It premiered with very healthy ratings, was picked up for a full season, and a thriving drama is just what the doctor ordered for the Alphabet Network. As long as the ratings don’t drop that much, my gut says it will easily score a renewal. For now, I will keep an eye on the Nielsens and will update this page with breaking developments, as well as any change in this show’s prognosis. I loved the original a great deal, and I love Freddie Hightower, so I made sure to watch this – and it’s very good! The first 2 episodes, our Good Doctor’s character & several others, are pretty much the same as in the Korean drama, but the show has veered from the story being told (which was in the SK format, a set 20 episodes, so had a definite end point) to become an episodic show. My husband and I regularly watch the good doctor and would appreciate it if they renew it for a second season.
I absolutely love the Good Doctor!!!! I would be heartbroken if it didn’t renew for another season. I was actually getting into it more than I did with Grey’s Anatomy!! Please keep it!!
It’s quite amazingwhat people with disabilities can do. They just might surprise you. If anyone thinks that people with disabilities are stupid or can’t do the things we can, well let me tell you! They are really really smart. They really should keep The Good Doctor on air. It only shows how much an autistic person can do and the difference they make on the world and other people.
I love the Good Doctor so much. It showed that we, as people shouldn’t look down or treat people with disabilities as a disadvantage of them from becoming much less of a successful person. I love how it had portrayed in this season. I had shed tears more than twice while watching this season series, I really felt the significant meaning for this show. Many my friends where in their 50s watch the Good Doctor. We love it!

Norman Bates does a really good job on this show but some of the other actors are just there for filler. They really need to give Norman some more air time and I don’t know if he’s too expensive now because he’s so famous as Norman Bates but everybody wants to see Norman they don’t care about the other doctors or the other little romance relationships or the old guy they don’t care they just want to see Norman let’s see Norman everybody.
Was it intentional to use “Norman Bates” instead of Freddie Highmore? Because it seems almost twistedly funny to use his role where he would kill people before he moved on to saving them as Dr. Shaun Murphy, as he’s mentioned in several interviews. I’m still interested in the supporting cast such as the president and his ties to Shaun, and it seems the closing of the Nov 20th episode hinted why the president is helping him so much.
Just love this show please don’t cancel The Good Doctor it’s amazing.
