It seems the creators of The Good Fight had a very different opening in mind. Recently, Robert and Michelle King spoke to Entertainment Weekly about how they changed the upcoming CBS All Access series.
The spin-off takes place a year after the events of The Good Wife‘s final season and follows Maia (Rose Leslie), a young lawyer who becomes entangled in a financial scam that wipes out the savings of her mentor and godmother, Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski). The cast also includes Cush Jumbo, Delroy Lindo, Sarah Steele, Justin Bartha, Erica Tazel, Paul Guilfoyle and Bernadette Peters.
In the interview with EW, the Kings revealed that they wrote Hillary Clinton’s presumed presidential victory into the first episode but quickly had to rewrite after Donald Trump’s shocking victory:
Like most pollsters, we thought Hillary Clinton would win the presidency, so we wrote scenes about Diane retiring from the law because she ‘broke every glass ceiling. Obviously we needed to rewrite — on the eighth day of shooting.”
Now, the series will open with Diane Lockhart’s reaction to Trump’s inauguration.
