The drama at Lakeshore Sentinel Hospital won’t continue into the 2022-23 TV season. CBS has cancelled Good Sam, ending any hopes of a second season on the network.
The Good Sam TV show stars Sophia Bush, Jason Isaacs, Skye P. Marshall, Michael Stahl-David, Omar Maskati, Davi Santos, Wendy Crewson, and Edwin Hodge. In the story, Doctor Sam Griffith (Bush) is a gifted heart surgeon who excels in her new leadership role as chief of surgery at Lakeshore Sentinel Hospital. The former chief of surgery, her former boss and renowned father, Doctor Rob “Griff” Griffith (Isaacs), had fallen into a coma. When Griff wakes up months later demanding to resume his duties, Sam is tasked with supervising this egotistical expert with a scalpel who never acknowledged his daughter’s stellar talent. As Griff defies Sam’s authority and challenges her medical expertise, the big question becomes whether this father and daughter will ever be able to mend their own relationship as expertly as they heal the hearts of their patients.
Airing on Wednesday nights, the first season of Good Sam averaged a 0.25 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.20 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was the network’s lowest-rated scripted series in both categories. In the live+7 day ratings (which includes a week of delayed viewing), Good Sam averaged a 0.40 demo with 3.77 million viewers.
The 13-episode season launched in January and finished airing last week, on May 4th. In the past 24 hours, CBS has also cancelled B Positive, How We Roll, Magnum PI, and United States of Al.

I am not sad about this. I watched mainly out of morbid curiosity. Not many of the characters were likeable, with the exception of Skye Marshall, and the plots were…weird?
Disappointed!! I want this show, United States of Al too and How we roll!!! What the heck!!!
Oh no this show is canceled! That’s ridiculous! I never watched Good Sam not before. Their ratings are OKAY! I’m VERY DISAPPOINTED!
Their ratings were definitely NOT okay. This is a ratings site, how are you unaware of this? It was literally dead last for scripted shows on CBS .
my wife and I really enjoyed the series, dont know what is going on with CBS during the last couple of years cancelling good shows only after one sesson
Thanks CBS for axing another good show. I loved this show! Good actors good story lines. No wonder Streaming is taking cable down.
Oversaturation, maybe? There are 666 medical shows on TV, and they all recycle the same plots amongst themselves. (Seriously, how many times have we seen the plot where somebody comes into the hospital, drunk off their ass, but claiming they haven’t had a drink in years…. only to find out that their body has some bizarre internal microbrewery going on) If they had held out a few years and waited for Greys Anatomy, New Amsterdam, or The Resident to come to an end, they might have found a market for this show. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Good Sam. We weren’t crazy about the tug of war between Sam and her father. All the backstabbing was a distraction.
CBS gets it wrong again, it’s a good show, 1 season isn’t enough time for the characters to grow. TV is about entertainment not just profits!
