While today’s NBC infront presentation brought good news for fans of struggling shows like Heroes and Parks and Recreation. Those who enjoy Life weren’t so lucky.
Life revolves around detective Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis), a man who served a dozen years for murders that he didn’t commit. He lost all that was dear to him but survives thanks to his studies of Zen philosophy. He eventually rejoins the LAPD but is a very different man. Others in the cast include Sarah Shahi, Adam Arkin, Brent Sexton, Donal Logue, Brooke Langton, Robin Weigert, Jennifer Siebel, Victor Rivers, and Jessy Schram.
The NBC drama debuted in September 2007 to 10.15 million viewers and a 4.1/11 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. Later episodes sank to a low of 5.72 million and a 2/6. If not for the writers strike, NBC would have cancelled Life after one year. The execs instead decided to give it another try and renewed the series for a second season.
Unfortunately, the next round of episodes didn’t perform any better than the first. NBC needs fewer shows next season because of their Jay Leno experiment but, even if they didn’t, Life wouldn’t be coming back with such poor ratings.
NBC’s co-chair, Ben Silverman, made it official today and confirmed that Life won’t be coming back next season. Thankfully, the last episode of the series gave viewers some closure and answers to ongoing questions. These days, that’s a luxury that few other shows are given.

Is Ben Silverman another Rick Wagoner?!! What is it with these CEO who stupidly run their companies into the ground. Yes, the American people want reality shows and SUV’s or so goes the conventional wisdom. You failed Silverman in finding a way to market this show.
Are you kidding me? This was one of the most clever and interesting shows on TV. The characters were actually likeable and the show wasn’t gratuituously violent. Please don’t tell me that another reality show is going to replace it…exposing us to yet another crop of people willing to make fools of themselves and leaving the audience with nothing to think about. Charlie could be a roll model, someone who cares about other people. And the networks wonder why cable stations are taking viewers away from them. They know enough to leave a good show on until it succeeds. You… Read more »
Its not fair that nbc is taking out good shows like LIFE and LAW AND ORDER to put jay leno at 10. Do you reaaly think you get better rating putting jay at 10 every night. its not fair to the faithful views of these 2 shows. If not on NBC put it on USA
I am not a big TV watcher. There are only a handfull of shows I watch each week and believe it or not, I look forward to watching them. LIfe has been one of my favorite shows in a very long time. I am saddened about the fact it’s all about the ratings and not about the quality of the shows NBC produces. I am begining to lose my faith in NBC over the past few years and after this, I think they will be able to count me out as a fan. Believe it or not, CBS has been… Read more »
hey numbnuts at nbc and get your heads out of your asses you are taking good shows off air and crap on.life, knight rider and now u arre talking about chuck.please i watched about 10 minutes of park and rec and i fell asleep i was so bored of the crap.i will tell you this that back then in the 80’s the networks gave 2nd chances so start thinking about that otherwise you wont have much viewers anymore.angry tv watcher.signed paul g.
Keep ife on it was the only show worth watching
I love Life. It is one series that my family enjoys together. Too much reality crap on TV! I am glad that I have a satellite dish! The network execs are network killing TV one canceled series at a time!
NBC might as well call itself FOX 2: they cancel great shows(Life, Journeyman)and keep crap shows(Parks & Recreations, Heroes)on the air.
A ‘Bring back Life’ campaign has been started.
Go to twitter.com and tweet #bringbacklife and also tweet to @USA_Network that it will be a perfect fit for their network.
For one time that there was a genuine new show, NBC cancelled it. I am in France ans it’s huge there!!!
Why do they want to cancel it? I will miss Charlie. Damian get back to UK because we want to see more of you!!!
I am going to stop watching NBC. FX, USA and other cable networks know how to get it right. Poor decision Ben Silverman. What do you know what is good. You keep on Celebrity Apprentice and Park and Recreation. I watched 3 minutes of each show and turned them off immediately. Your taste is bad. I hope that the viewers stop watching NBC and turn to other cable stations. You did not give Life a home. You moved the show so people lost track of it. I hope viewers lose track of Jay.
Cannot believe that NBC is BETTING on Jay Leno to make their 10 O’clock line up number one. Big mistake!!!!! Viewers want to watch a show that is well acted and written. Life is that show. Ben Silverman should be fired and replaced with someone who could put NBC in the number one position. The networks keep canceling the good shows and they keep showing the rotten shows. Poor move on NBC. For one, I will not be watching Jay Leno. GOOD BYE NBC.
If I’d known my cussing was going to be bleeped I would have been more creative. Anyway, damianlewisweb.com has a link to a twitter site to have another network pick up the series
nbc keeps looking at the numbers and seeing them as low, what do they expect with all the different stations to watch. nbc seems to be the worst, i get settled in with a show and before you know it they cancell it. life was an enjoyable program.
That does it for me. There’s no point in getting interested in TV Series anymore. I’ll just rent movies. Why don’t the networks stop moving their damn shows around? It’s as annoying as the grocery stores. I like to know where and when to find the **** I want to find. You hear me NBC? I’m done!
I’m going to miss these characters. I’m going to have to go get my own ‘life’ I guess. ********
