A CBS crime drama, Magnum PI stars Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang, and Amy Hill. The mystery thriller centers on former Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), who is back from Afghanistan and working as a private investigator. Magnum lives in a guest cottage on the Robin’s Nest estate in Oahu, where he also serves as a security consultant. With his team at the ready, a vintage Ferrari at his disposal, and his trademark aviator sunglasses, Magnum is always ready to crack the next case.
The series launched in September to a 1.16 in the 18-49 demographic with 8.12 million viewers. The numbers have fallen quite a bit since then and the 13 episodes have averaged a 0.96 in the demo with 6.07 million. Compared to the 21 scripted CBS shows, Magnum PI ranks ninth in the demo and has done significantly better in the timeslot than last year’s occupants (cancelled sitcoms like Kevin Can Wait, Superior Donuts, 9JKL, and Living Biblically).
CBS also renewed two other freshman shows – FBI and The Neighborhood — for the 2019-20 season. “Each of these distinctive shows has made their mark in a variety of ways,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “Our goals this season were to introduce new series that audiences are passionate about, add more strength to a winning schedule and create more inclusive programming.” Thom Sherman, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming added, “We’re thrilled by the creative direction and performance of these three shows as they continue to grow in popularity and resonate with the Network’s viewers.”
The network has not renewed Sunday’s God Friended Me for a second season yet but a renewal is expected. Renewals of Happy Together and Murphy Brown are seen as more of a longshot.

The new Magnum is Brilliant and I’m really glad it has been given a second series. The old Magnum is just that outdated, was good in it’s time but the new Magnum is like a breath of fresh air. Really clever idea to have Higgins played by the Beautiful Perdita Weeks (Bloody Hell she’s Gorgeous) and hope as the show goes on their relationship will be more on the romantic side. I have enjoyed watching Magnum P.I. Actually I was delightfully surprised at how well I liked it since I speculated that redoing the show without Tom Selleck couldn’t be possible. I grew up watching the some of the original Magnum P.I. series with my dad once in a while as a kid. The show was originally aired a year before I was born so that should tell you how old I am. I find the new series more entertaining in some ways. Thanks for bringing back Magnum PI. 🙂

My wife and I love the new Magnum, it has a lot more action than the old one and it was a great idea to use actress Perdita Weeks for Higgins. Great fit with Jay Hernandez.

My family and myself was not sure if the new Magnum pi was going to fill the shoes of the old magnum or not. But we love the new one. But you cant look for the Thomas character to be exactly as the . Very happy it was picked up again. Hope that it continues for many seasons!
I’m happy there’s going to be a season two i loved the old magnum when I was a kid i think the new version is just as good maybe better i feel jay Hernandez is much better in the role than Tom selleck

I am a big fan of the “New” Magnum PI! Magnum and Higgins are super replacements (with a different twist) from the original. I was also a dedicated fan of the original.
The support cast is eclectic, fun and dedicated to the case. The setting takes us out of our tv rooms to the beautiful Hawaiian shores.
It will be fun to see how Magnum and Higgy develop their new relationship as “team” investigators and maybe “more.”
When will the season 2, episode one resume? I hope you will be here for a long, long while!!!

Nope, he is DEFINITELY NOT Tom Selleck….a female Higgins is ridiculous and the remaining supporting cast isn’t great either….sorry, but there is nothing like a 6′ 4″ gorgeous male with a sense of humor….the new Magnum is not good…sorry.
A 6’4″ gorgeous male who couldn’t act his way out of a wet paper bag! Now he’s an old man relegated to playing “Grampa” roles like police chief on “Blue Bloods”???

I like Magnum P.I. glad CBS chose to give it a 2nd year. Nothing is as good as Tom Seleck this remake if fun happy they didn’t take it off
