A CBS crime drama, Magnum PI stars Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang, and Amy Hill. The mystery thriller centers on former Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), who is back from Afghanistan and working as a private investigator. Magnum lives in a guest cottage on the Robin’s Nest estate in Oahu, where he also serves as a security consultant. With his team at the ready, a vintage Ferrari at his disposal, and his trademark aviator sunglasses, Magnum is always ready to crack the next case.
The series launched in September to a 1.16 in the 18-49 demographic with 8.12 million viewers. The numbers have fallen quite a bit since then and the 13 episodes have averaged a 0.96 in the demo with 6.07 million. Compared to the 21 scripted CBS shows, Magnum PI ranks ninth in the demo and has done significantly better in the timeslot than last year’s occupants (cancelled sitcoms like Kevin Can Wait, Superior Donuts, 9JKL, and Living Biblically).
CBS also renewed two other freshman shows – FBI and The Neighborhood — for the 2019-20 season. “Each of these distinctive shows has made their mark in a variety of ways,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “Our goals this season were to introduce new series that audiences are passionate about, add more strength to a winning schedule and create more inclusive programming.” Thom Sherman, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming added, “We’re thrilled by the creative direction and performance of these three shows as they continue to grow in popularity and resonate with the Network’s viewers.”
The network has not renewed Sunday’s God Friended Me for a second season yet but a renewal is expected. Renewals of Happy Together and Murphy Brown are seen as more of a longshot.

Of all the new shows on CBS this season Magnum was by far the best. The actors and the plots were outstanding and I was disappointed when the season ended so early. It may have been a better show than the original.
The show is Great. The cast was perfectly picked. The scenery and and camera shots are stunning. Higgins along with the camera shots are both a breath of fresh air. Thanks!!

I love the show. It’s one of the very few tv shows I watch. The banter among the characters is very amusing and intelligent. The actors are all very appealing. Please keep on producing.
I love it! Very entertaining and not as intensive as other shows. The cast is excellent!

ThisMagnum P I is sooo much better than the old one. Get great writers. The format is great. Sexy leading man for beautiful Hawaiian estate. Smart beautiful leading lady with many surprises. Vintage fast car. Beaches. Dead bodies. Two supporting brothers in arms. Hot. Cop/ friend at times. Bad guys. Beaches. Beautiful site. What is not to like. Write some great stuff. Who watches to watch a stuffy sitcom??? If this show goes under you did not try.
I grew up watching the original Magnum and didn’t think I would like this one, but I love it! So glad it is being renewed!

Me and my husband love Magnum PI. I grew up watching the original, we both agree that this reboot is so much better. We are excited for the new season and can’t wait to watch more.
I have to say that growing up on the original Magnum PI had me hating the new series before it started but after watching it has truly changed my opinion. I can’t get enough and keep looking for the next episode. The show is great and very touching the way the writers and cast show us how we should honor our military and never let your friends down and always be there for them. Keep up the good work “guys”.
