Why was Marvel’s Agent Carter cancelled? Recently, Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the cancelled ABC TV series.
Last year, ABC cancelled the show after only two seasons. The drama starred Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, an agent working for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) during the post-WWII years. The cast also included James D’Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, Enver Gjokaj, and Shea Whigham.
In the interview, Loeb said the decision to end Agent Carter came from ABC, not Marvel:
We are, at the end of the day, beholden to the network that we’re on. So for all of you Agent Carter fans out there, we didn’t cancel the show.”
What do you think? Did you watch Marvel’s Agent Carter? Do you wish it was still on?
Please bring it back
Please bring back agent Carter
Please bring back Agent Carter! Our family (with two tweens) are HUGE fans of the Marvel Universe and this show brought so much depth to characters and plot lines already established through the films and the show Agents of SHIELD. The second season of Agent Carter was even better than the first! So much potential lies in this show. ABC has the opportunity to grow an enormous fan base with this show, which is tied to such an adored universe of characters. ABC, bring this show and it’s wonderful actors back!!!
Although I enjoyed the show and love Hayley Atwell in that role, I understood why this didn’t do well. After Cap FA movie, and the Agent Carter one shot that launched the idea for this show, what I felt the story I was going to get as a fan was the formation of SHIELD. But instead we got a focus on Agent Carter specifically as she struggles through her SSR days. Interesting… but not provocative in my view. Yes, women had it rough in post WWII world and they had to find their place and struggle for their rights. Sure.… Read more »
Wonderful show and great acting. Mistake to cancel.
I watched Agent Carter it was a great show. One of the few clean good family shows. It amazes how many clean wholesome shows gate cancelled and they keep the crap.
I’m disappointed that Agent Carter was cancelled! It was a great show. Bring it back.
Can’t believe they cancelled one of the best shows! Now we’re forever wondering who Peggy ends up with and how things turn out. Does she stay in California or return to New York? What happens to Jarvis and his wife? Mr. Stark? We want to see where Tony Stark comes into play. This show had the ability to tie so many things together and I will truly miss it.
Big mistake ABC, but what can we expect from the network that airs The ***** Show (aka The Bachelor/Bachelorette)?
Agent Carter was amazing. I love it!! Please,c continue with the story
I will sell my soul to get the show back on air, okay? This show has so much potential, and it’s the genesis of SHIELD and it can bring so much to the Marvel universe, and Peggy Carter is such a wonderful character, and now since they’re cancelling Conviction too I won’t get to have my Hayley Atwell fix so I really wish Marvel could make an effort and find another network to sell the show to.
Agent Carter was an amazing show. Season 2 was even better than season 1. There was a lot of unexplored potential to be had in season 3. Shame on you ABC!
I loved this show and will really miss it
The executives making decisions do not seem to appreciate that’cult’ TV, Takes time to bed and a loyal following to develop and once there they tend to stay. When will the big ones at the top learn about types of programs. They just look at the initial bottom line.
Please some other broadcast pick it up and run with it.
John
Possibly because the ratings STUNK? ABC wouldn’t have cancelled it if the ratings were good. ABC needs successful shows.
Amen, Worthmagic. It was a crap show with horrible acting and lame plots. “Run over here, Run over there. Ok, now run back…” Not enough Marvel and too much women’s lib.
