Though CBS hasn’t admitted it, it’s being assumed that Medium has indeed been cancelled. The venerable drama has been down in the ratings this season (though it often ranks first in the 18-49 demographic for the timeslot) and CBS cut the season order from 22 to just 13 installments. That’s never a good sign. Just ask the folks from Numb3rs when a similar thing happened to them last year.
Over the weekend, Medium star Patricia Arquette was at an event and told EW that the show was indeed cancelled.
The cast has two more episodes to shoot before they wrap and Arquette said, “I was trying to get information from the writers about the last episode… I don’t know what it’s going to be, but they’re really excited about it. They’re like, ‘we’re just going to burn the whole thing down!’ I’m really excited.”
The actress isn’t looking forward to the show ending but said, “It’s been a great time. I love that time in my life.”
What do you think? Is Arquette correct or will Medium beat cancellation once again and return for season eight?

Dear CBS,
As an avid watched of Medium, I can’t believe your exec decision to cancel the show was rediculous. The program is so true to life, warm and tender, children growing up, the strain of everyday life; could anyone ask for more. Another big blunder by CBS to the American people. Don’t do this to “us.”
Medium was one of the most interesting and non violent and non sexual shows on TV. No filthy language or suggestive remarks. Bring it back.
Good shows are rare, why can’t CBS appreciate a good show when all us fans do.
I hate that The Medium will be cancelled. It’s bad enough “Ghosh Whisperer” was. We love both these shows.
Please bring it back on the air and as some suggested maybe another station will pick it up. It’s too good to cancel. We watch it every week.
COME TO YOUR SENSES, CBS!!!
I get so frustrated when companies do this. Does dvr count? Why cancel? At least finish it out. It’s exactly what they did with las Vegas. Pretty soon I won’t watch any CBS shows.
What in the heck is going on? This is the best show on television. My husband and I never miss an episode and we are CRUSHED!!!! Whoever made the decision to cancel this show is a complete idiot. Is there any possibility that a cable channel will pick it up in syndication? ou should know that you have completely ruined our Hannukah, Christmas, New Year and Valentines’ Day for 2011 and probably forever. I want to know who made this inane decision and why. Mary Verdier
I don’t understand why television executives can’t understand that not every show can be in first place. Television needs to offer different venues for different audiences. Audiences that have smaller demographics are not going to be in the top, but they might be very important to those who watch. First, we are losing Medium and now it appears TNT’s Closer is also getting the ax. Then you have crap like Wife Swap that has been around for years and it is pure garbage. In fact, there is so much garbage on television now days I am thinking seriously about canceling… Read more »
I am so with you on this…its like when you find an awesome color lipstick shade, then they yank it from the shelf….so sad and extremely frustrating.
Maybe the ratings were down because so many repeats. I watch every episode and look forward to new shows. Seems to me it is the producer,s fault for all the reruns. Let the show on and put new ones on.
I Would have Really loved to see Alison AS A LAWYER and using her Gift to do her Cases….Heck, it may have even been interesting to see her eventually as the District Attorney….In any case, I love this show I’ve watched it since its beginning, and even if they are in a bit of a ratings slump, that doesn’t mean they should just yank the show…Everything is “Ebb and Flow” and ratings for TV shows are no exception…Now, it seems the number of the FEW shows I do watch on TV is just going to continue to get smaller and… Read more »
Medium is one of my favorites and I am totally shocked that it has been canceled. It seems that the good shows get canceled while the stupid shows stay on. Who cares about the Kardashians. Other shows that were good and canceled were Dirty Sexy Money and Moonlight. Hope CBS changes their minds about Medium.
Medium is one of my favorite shows. I wish CBS would not cancel it!!! It’s one of the best shows on television. I love how Allison’s family is a reflection in some ways of what real Americans are going through–trying to put kids through college, make ends meet, get educated (did you see the last episode when Allison and Joe had to compromise and only one of them could go on to get a master’s/law degree)? American families go through this kind of thing all the time, especially now, and CBS is stupid for cancelling this show in times like… Read more »
We watch Medium via DVR…..Are you people counting us? We just did a Nielsen Ratings Survey and they chose Thanksgiving week the Thursday prior up until Thanksgiving Day. Half the shows were re-runs and the other half we had to DVR to have time to watch them all. But it did include DVR programs…One included Medium that we always watch via DVR! Why a holiday week? I always wondered how they chose people for Nielsen Ratings, now I know it’s all biased! We are your demographic audience….woman 47, man 51. We watch every week on our DVR, hubby works second… Read more »
Whatever the ending, what will always intrigue me is why was the coat rack in Aeriel’s bedroom upside down. I have an identical one from Ikea here in the UK and the loops are supposed to go at the top to hang things on in addition to the pegs!
Has anyone else noticed this?!
This brilliantly entertaining series with great potential and a wonderful cast will probably be canceled and not brought back, because CBS will, as usual make the wrong call; I’m sorry to say and sorrier that this series is no longer on CBS.
CBS executives are not so smart as they think and therefore this brilliantly entertaining series with great potential and a wonderful cast will probably be canceled and not brought back, because CBS will, as usual make the wrong call; I’m sorry to say and sorrier that this series is no longer on CBS.
