ABC surprised more than a few people when the network renewed Men in Trees for a second season. Great, but where did it go?
Marin Frist (Anne Heche) is a best-selling author and relationship coach who helps women find the right man, using her own life as an example. On a plane trip to attend an Alaska conference, she finds out that her finance has been cheating on her and realizes that she doesn’t know as much as she thought she did. Marin decides to stay in the remote town (where the ratio of men to women is 10 to one) so that she can truly learn how to find and keep a good man, and write a new book. The cast also features Abraham Benrubi, Emily Bergl, Seana Kofoed, Suleka Mathew, Derek Richardson, Sarah Strange, Cynthia Stevenson, Lauren Tom, James Tupper, and John Amos.
Men in Trees debuted on September 12, 2006 on ABC. Trees followed the Fall debut of Dancing with the Stars and attracted over 12.1 million viewers. The second episode lost a third of the audience and attracted just over eight million in its regular timeslot. Despite a season of ratings ups and downs, ABC renewed Men in Trees for a second year on March 21st.
Men in Trees has been off the air however since March 8th. ABC pulled the series to make room for the debut of October Road. Trees was originally scheduled to return on April 12th but ABC has reworked its schedule more than once, delaying the return each time.
ABC has now announced that Trees fans will have to wait a whole longer to see new episodes — probably five months. The remaining five episodes of season one will now be part of Trees’ second season, bringing the sophomore year episode total to 27.
Though frustrating and unusual, this isn’t unprecedented. Grey’s Anatomy and Boston Legal both had 27 episode sophomore years. There have been rumors that ABC may change their mind and decide to air the rest this season. We’ll keep you posted so stay tuned!
This has been a strange season for ABC. So many shows using past episodes and the last Greys anatomy was a review of all the past episodes,(almost like just filling in the time slot. Men in trees was fun to watch. Another odd time to drop it and try out all these new series.
I kept waiting for “Men in Trees” to reaapear thinking they were taking a few weeks to debut a new series. COME ON AlREADY-EVEN MY BOYFRIEND LIKED THIS SHOW! We watch reality TV, but this was refreshing with likable characters one would want to know. Scenery was a plus and reminder of Northern Exposure.Belive it or not some people don’t have cable and can be devotees of regular programing. You are going to miss the boat if you keep messing with your audience ABC- Wake up-hopefully in Alaska.
I can’t wait five months for Men & Trees to return…there is nothing to watch in the summer so now would be a good time to bring it back and get a bigger fan base.
Bring Men In Trees back, please…new episodes. I enjoyed watching the interesting but kind behaviors of the people in this town. Northern Exposure was one of my favorite TV shows. I missed it when it ended; Men In Trees strikes me as similar and equally enjoyable.
Please bring Men in Trees back. I love this show and miss the characters. I really didn’t expect to like the show but it really draws you in. Great writing. Don’t make us wait much longer.
My husband and I had looked forward to every Friday night, then Thursday night to watch the tuely enjoyable sitcom. It was the only sitom (or for that matter any evening programing) I cared to watch. Please what ever it takes, bring it back. Thank You
I am another former Northern Exposure fan who enjoys Alaska. Not only does Men inTrees have a fascinating story line, it also has great eye appeal with its beautiful scenery. Hoping to see the second season and many seasons to come with inclusion of more landscape, seascape, and wildlife.
Each time Men In Trees is not on you lose us ABC to another station….Please bring it back!
At 66 I don’t find much in sitcoms that are worth watching. I have totally enjoyed Men in Trees and have really missed it. Bring it back soon!!!
at first i wasnt sure about the men in trees show but i got hooked the first time i watched it and loved watching it on friday nights after ghost whisperer but thursdays worked well to because that was a line up to watch ugly betty supernatural and of course men in trees now there is nothing to watch after abc should bring it back it was fun and corky me and my friends really enjoyed it
Our whole family and extended family and friends LOVE Men in Trees and have really missed it. Please bring it back soon.
Please, please put Men In Trees back on!!! Why does ABC keep messing with program schedules? I stay so confused. One week the shows are on and before you know it, they are gone , with no explanation. This really hurts the viewing audience and kills the continuity of the show. Knock it off and allow these shows, Men In Trees and Greys Anatomy to run out a normal season without interruption. Thanks.
PLEASE renew this show. I am so sick of reality shows, that this one was an enjoyable hour. Get it back on the air!!!
I have a very select few shows that I will watch. Men In Trees is one of them. I didn’t expect to like it, because of Anne Heche, but I found myself really enjoying all of the characters. There are so few intelligent, non-reality-tv shows out there these days. Thursday night was my favorite night, because of Grey’s Anatomy and Men In Trees. It’s been frustrating waiting for new shows, especially when it took me FOREVER to find out when Men In Trees might be returning…and now it’s going to be 5 months? I think it’s a mistake to play… Read more »
