Over the weekend, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler confirmed that the Three Rivers TV show had indeed been cancelled. Now that Alex O’Loughlin is finished with that series, does that mean that Moonlight will be coming back?
Moonlight follows private investigator and vampire Mick St. John (O’Loughlin) and Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), an Internet reporter. St. John saved Beth’s life as a child and the two develop a romantic relationship years later. Others in the series include Jason Dohring, Shannyn Sossamon, and Brian J. White
Though Moonlight had decent ratings and a devout group of followers, CBS decided to cancel the series after just one season. The network wanted to stay in business with O’Loughlin however and that eventually led to him being cast in Three Rivers.

While some Moonlight fans followed O’Loughlin to the new series, many didn’t. Some people who have posted to this site have said that they refused to watch Three Rivers in hopes that this would somehow convince/force CBS to revive Moonlight.
Now that Three Rivers has been officially cancelled, will Moonlight be back? While Tassler proudly takes credit for being ahead of the current vampire craze, she says that the network has no plans to revive the little-watched cult favorite.
Despite his show’s low ratings, Tassler does still believe in O’Loughlin’s talent and said, “We’re trying to find something for him.”
What do you think? What kind of role would you like to see O’Loughlin take on next? Do you think Moonlight is a help or hindrance to his career? Is the role that helped make him famous actually stifling his career?

I sure hope that they revive ‘Moonlight’ a lot of viewers were sorely disappointed to see it go. The entire cast was great, and Mick makes the ‘Twilight” vamps pale by comparison.
95% of fans were all about Moonlight , about the wonderful story and the chemistry between all the characters , never just about a particular actor. CBS tried to push Three Rivers down the throats of Moonlight fans and did not work. Alex is very talented , but it was Mick who stole our hearts . Mick was the special character people fell in love with in a second. Trevor Munson gave us that special character so dificult to find in TV these days. I wish CBS or WB to give us back Moonlight. Why try a new show when… Read more »
I realy hope Moonlight is comming back and with it a lot af fans. I want to see Alex as Mick St.John.
But sure is, that he can more than that, he is a great actor. Hopefully he can do the show and besides some terrific movies. He has managed it also with Back up Plan and Three Rivers, why not with Moonlight and other projects?!
I myself, would love to see Moonlight come back. I know it probably won’t, but we really loved that show and were reall disappointed when it was cancelled.
Alex was great as a vampire but I would watch him no matter what he decides to do. I really loved Moonlight and all my coworkers did also and I am not a teenager. He has a way of speaking with his eyes and they didn’t give Three Rivers a chance considering all the other stupid shows that they leave on. I hope to see him either back with Moonlight or on something that will stick around for a few years.
They are doing a spin off of Criminal Minds. Why not try him on that show.
The original CM is a huge hit and most of the spinoffs are successfully/
Just please get this man a weekly show that has the chance of being a hit.
I’m sorry, how effing crazy is the above statement? The actors will never be able to move forward and be successful in their careers unless they again work on a show that was and is canceled (due largely to low ratings)? Do you hear yourself?
I don’t understand who they ask about ratings. I think I am pretty average, and my favorite shows all seem to get canceled- I loved both Moonlight AND Three Rivers. I hate reality shows, and some of the other garbage that survives. I think the networks need to start listening to someone else!! Leave the good stuff on!
MOONLIGHT IS NOT FINISHED WITH THE CAST, OR WRITERS, AND UNTIL IT COMES TO” THE CONCLUSION”, NOT OF THEM WILL BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD OR BE SUCESSFUL…..
I liked Moonlight mainly because of Alex but he has to move on and not let a show from his past no matter how fond he was of the role become an albatross in his career. He can do much more.
How dare Ms. Nina refer to the show as little watched cult show. 7 million people are just a few in the sceme of things, huh? Moonlight was #1 , yes #1 in its time slot on Friday night up against all the other networks. If you want to give Alex something that works and he likes and we want to see him in then REVIVE MOONLIGHT!!! You were leading the pack in the vampire craze, which by the way is only growing stronger. They are getting ready to film the third of the Twilight series if they haven’t started… Read more »
Wow! OK Alex is NOT Moonlight! Mick St. John was a beloved role for Alex but not his first role or his last – no matter how much you stomp your feet! He has stated he doesn’t want to play the same character over and over again. As an actor he wants to take on new roles and challenges and progress in his career.
7 million IS low viewership for CBS and it also fell below the desired demo that advertisers want too. She ratings were slipping. Nina Tassler is stating fact.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I am actually watching a rerun of Moonlight now, I just love that show, and like this earlier post, the Vampire craze is just getting bigger and bigger. We want Mick!! Bring back Moonlight!
News of Three Rivers cancellation is very disappointing, especially when I see your network air garbage like “I Get That Alot”. Is the viewing audience so shallow that this is the kind of crap that holds their attention? Very, very disappointing CBS.
This guy might as well be a dime store David Boreanaz.
I won’t dispute whether he has acting chops or not, whether Moonlight was worth watching or Three Rivers worth greenlighting to begin with but if O’Loughlin wants to have any real presence in the industry he should shop himself around a bit more or run the risk of being “the guy in the canceled vampire show”.
I have to agree about O’Loughlin shopping himself around. Staying with CBS limits him greatly (can you say procedural 20 times?). Although he’s a very loyal kind of guy, it’s time to move on and ditch the network that doesn’t seem to work for him. He’s probably stuck in a multi-year contract.
Moonlight was the best vampire series by far! Far better than the vampire diaries or the pathetic twilight series.
Moonlight was an awful show, with painfully trite dialogue and terrible acting. It would be best if that vampire series were left in the cancellation graveyard, staked and forgotten.
