During the regular 2017-18 season, NBC launched seven new scripted TV shows and four of them were cancelled. Which TV shows will be cancelled or renewed during the 2018-19 television season? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): Abby’s, American Ninja Warrior, America’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent: The Champions, AP Bio, The Blacklist, Blindspot, Bring the Funny, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, Dateline NBC, Ellen’s Game of Games, The Enemy Within, Good Girls, The Good Place, Hollywood Game Night, The Inbetween, I Feel Bad, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Manifest, Midnight Texas, New Amsterdam, Songland, Superstore, This Is Us, The Titan Games, The Village, The Voice, Will & Grace and World of Dance.
There’s lots of data that NBC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
I have cable television but actually prefer most of the programs shown on regular television. I really don’t have many complaints with the new fall programing I would like to express some concern. Although I liked gifted I am ok with it being cancelled. Unfortunately I am dismayed at the news Timeless is being cancelled. It bothers me that a series that actually included historical times/events has no reverence in todays media. I wonder if you considered changing the view time and date. A number of the programs I really enjoy appear to compete with one another and I have… Read more »
Love the village! Relevant topics and just gets you in the heart, really sad it was canceled. It should be saved!
Please bring back SONGLAND!!! It’s starting to get buz and with a better time slot it would dominate!!!
I am constantly checking to see if The Village was renewed yet. I am a TV addict and The Village is my favorite new show. The cast and the characters they play are so amazing. This show and their stories tug on the heartstrings and feels very real and relevant. Subjects like PTSD and cancer and single parenthood and made more manageable with an invaluable network of neighbors becoming a family of friends. It’s really an extraordinary show in many ways and deserves a 2nd season and then lots more.
Best show on tv! Such a fabulous cast
And wonderful writers!

Save The Village
TOTALLY AGREE!!
The Enemy Within is the only scripted show I care about being renewed. Please don’t cancel it. It’s a great show!
Please don’t cancel The Village.
I THINK JASON BEGHE OF CHICAGO PD IS SO PHENOMENAL AND IS THE HEART OF CHICAGO PD THE SHOW WOULD BE NOTHING WITHIOUT HIM. LOVE THIS GUY LU REILLY
I agree! I think Chicago PD is one of Dick Wolf’s best! Jason Beghe is awesome – the whole cast is great! It’s one of my two absolute favorite shows (the other being Blue Bloods).
I totally agree.
The contest shows, like World of Dance, puts too much attention on the judges. All during the performances the cameraman keeps showing the judges. They need to stop that.
I love The Enemy Within. I think the pilot should be aired again and let people know what it is about
I love the Enemy Within. I think it should air the pilot again and let people learn about it.
These numbers are skewed if it is based solely on live and same day viewing. What about all of the individuals that watch via roku or other similar means? I am 60 and enjoy the show “This is Us”, but don’t seem to be in the popular demographic. I also watched Midnight, Texas which unfortunately is being cancelled. If there isn’t a system in place for rating the shows watched via other means you are not receiving accurate information and missing a large portion of your viewers. Those of us who cut the cable cord and schedule our shows to… Read more »
Then you shouldn’t complain about things being cancelled. Did you forget what makes the networks money? What helps pay to keep these shows on the air? They are called COMMERCIALS. If you aren’t watching them, or the advertisers don’t think you are watching them, WHY should they pay to help keep these shows going? I guess you forgot about that part. It’s all about YOU, and that is the problem.
Well I hope watching shows on my downstairs ROKU TV is tracked because commercials are aired when viewing NBC/CBS, etc. And I wonder when watching on HULU, if those of us that didn’t pay to skip commercials help with ratings? And it seems to me for some reason, there are more commercials watching basic channel lineups on ROKU than when watching on the other cable TVs in the house.
Love Midnight, Texas! I’m mad!!
Glad especially for NBC, Chicago programs, SVU, MANIFEST, AMSTERDAM…
STILL HOPING MARLON COMES BACK.
New Amsterdam and Manifest have totally hooked me .. Just need Midnight, texas to start up again and NBC will rule my week lol
Agree with all of those shows, I hope for the same.
Like New Amsterdam. Thought at first it was going to be the usual medical soap opera, but the cast is great and the story lines so far have been unique.
So glad NBC’s New Amsterdam got off to a very impressive start. Its tone is a very good fit with lead-in This Is Us, so I expect this may well be the break-out hit for Fall 2018. I loved CBS’s Code Black, however its future is still uncertain (due to the renewal rumors that abound). That said, if Code Black does not get picked up for a fourth season, I think its audience will definitely gravitate to NBC’s New Amsterdam.
Absolutely LOVE Code Black! The shows writers are SO talented with turning out great scripts week after week. Also, the actors led by the fantastic, Marsha Gay Harden & Rob Lowe plus supporting cast, give Emy worthy performances each and every week. Well liked show and many fans will be really disappointed if not renewed!
Ok, I’m getting invested in New Amersterdam. DVR and everything. I’m committed. So, I hope it’s here to to stay.
