In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

Both CBS and ABC are crazy! This is an excellent show. I haven’t laughed so much since Frazier. With all the crap on TV, they take off this show, which was witty and funny. What a shame. Too bad Lifetime couldn’t pick it up as it definitely appeals to their audience.
Miss the show!! It was hysterical. I’m sick of the reruns on lifetime. They play the.same 5 episodes every week.
This is one of the best comedies (in my opinion) in a long time!!!! If Lifetime is willing to play reruns, and there was no final episode, than why don’t they just pick it up and air new ones?! That is all!
The New Adventures of Old Christine is a funny as hell sitcom. I’ll admit I didn’t get into the series until it was shown in syndication on the Lifetime network in the Fall. I was never a fan of the over rated Seinfeld and figured Dreyfess’ turn at Christine would be a rip off of her Seinfeld character. I was wrong! The show is still current and hilarious and seems like the cast is having a fun time. Dreyfess is a modern day Lucille Ball brought to the twenty-first century. I first started watching Roseanne in syndication five years into… Read more »
It’s funny, I love watching it.
I LOVED this show! Evidently, some people donot recognize
wonderfully, funny talent!
I just thought the show was on hiatus for mid-season pickup… after a while I started enquiring on the internet to see when the new season would premeire. Certainly a funny sitcom like this wasn’t being cancelled. When I googled, that’s the 1st thing I saw. The show was cancelled.
I can certainly do without that Mike and Molly crap… there’s a couple of CBS Sitcoms I can do without. They messed up when they dropped Christine
I have been watching the new adventures of old christene reruns and was ready for some new episodes im soo upset it was sucha funny show MAN!!!!!i didnt watch every episode to know this
I just googled the show to see when new episodes would be starting and read it has been cancelled! What a shame as both my husband and I have been watching reruns of the show and we just crack up every time. If the big guys won’t pick it up, then the smaller cable shows definitely should — it’s a smart, entertaining sitcom.
Bring Old Christine back!!! It was hidden for years and now in syndicaton…that why I see it and my entire family loves it! Very successful!!! Bring it back! Quickly!
NO!!!! Was Googling to see when this show resumes; can’t believe it was cancelled, and without any ‘closure.’ So, really, CBS?? Bleep My Dad Says is better than ‘Old Christine?’ hmmm…trying to think of any other CBS sitcoms, and drawing a blank. Not exactly a harbinger of good tidings for CBS. Wait: guess there’s one good night: Big Bang Theory, HIMYM, 2.5 Men…leaves a few nights (and time slots other than these 3) for Christine! Please, CBS, bring back this great show!
I LOVE this show! BRING IT BACK!!
This show has great writers and fantastic actors/actresses. The story lines are always hysterical and JLD is one funny lady. She is a true talent–comedic and blends so well with the other cast members. Such a good combination of characters.
PLEASE TELL US HOW TO GET IT BACK!!!
omg, i have been watching reruns…please bring back this show…it is the bomb
What a shame, the cast had such good chemistry and was truly funny show that we could relate to about single mom. No wonder abc losing watchers, the better stuff on lifetime usa tnt and other cable networks. Hot in Cleveland great on tvland! I really looked forward to this show.
