While access to affordable healthcare is still at the forefront of the national conversation, NBC has ordered the New Amsterdam TV show to series. Not to be confused with the quickly cancelled supernatural-themed 2008 FOX TV series of the same name, the new New Amsterdam is a medical drama from writer and EP David Schulner. It is inspired by Bellevue Hospital in New York City — the oldest public hospital in the United States. The new show hails from Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions, and Mount Moriah.
Meanwhile, if you’ll recall your elementary school social studies lessons, New Amsterdam is the name of the former Dutch settlement, which has been officially known as the City of New York since 1664. The New Amsterdam TV series stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine. The NBC TV show centers on the new medical director, Dr. Max Goodwin (Eggold), who wants to ditch the hospital’s old, bureaucracy-laden ways, in order to provide top-notch medical care.
Ryan Eggold Stars in New Amsterdam on NBC
The NBC audience is already well acquainted with Eggold, who co-starred as Tom Keen, on the first five seasons of The Blacklist. He also headlined in that role on the spin-off series, The Blacklist: Redemption, which was cancelled in 2017, after one season of eight episodes.

New Amsterdam
Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care.
How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and under-appreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map.
According to the Peacock Network, Kate Dennis is directing and executive producing the pilot. Peter Horton will also executive produce, with Dr. Eric Manheimer producing.
Although the network has not issued a New Amsterdam series order release, the show is up on the NBCUniversal press site (which is not typical of pilots in development). Deadline has also confirmed the New Amsterdam series order.

I like this show but hate the stupid drums. So annoying and can’t hear over them. If they continue we are not going to watch the show any.
I am watching this show very carefully because I served with distinction as a NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation Police Officer. Bellevue Hospital to whom New Amsterdam is based on is run by the New York City Health & Hospitals corporation and I am looking for signs that the production company will make the mistake of addressing HHC Police as “security guards”. For those unaware of Bellevue Hosptal it is protected by dedicated men and women of the 2nd Division of the NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation Police Department. As a matter of fact the HHC Police Academy is on… Read more »
I love New Amsterdam. Please don’t cancel it. The only problem with it is the loud drums throughout the shows. It interferes with my hearing. I rewind the DVR over and over trying to understand.
I was excited about this show because I like Ryan Egghold. I am not excited because you just had to put a gay relationship in there. Will not watch another episode.
I like Ryan Eggold from the Blacklist show. He is good as a spy or action character. I really don’t care for Hospitals or anything related to them. I will not watch a single show of this series.
I was instantly hooked to this show! My only negative feedback is that in the 2nd episode they made it clear that a school psych was making a student take prescription drugs. I am a special ed teacher and that is not true. We are not even allowed to bring up medication in a conversation. School districts definitely don’t prescribe meds. I’ll still keep watching the show because the acting and storyline is great.
Watching this show it is clear that the writers have no idea what procedures are in place for transplants! why do you want to pass along such false information as you are doing. Doctors and hospitals have no ability to find or match any transplant it is ONLY handled through United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and never by local doctors. At least follow real procedures.
THIS SHOW HAD ME HOOKED JUST BY THE PREVIEWS. NOW THAT MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BOTH SEEN IT.. OMG WE CANT WAIT TO KEEP WATCHING!!! THIS SHOW WILL BE GREAT IF THEY KEEP UP THE “HOW CAN I HELP” MENTALITY.. SO EXCTIED FOR THE NEXT EPISODE
I’d hate to see Eggold completely smiling all the time and seeming to imagine that there is NO good doctor there and insists that every one of them become good doctors. Do we really have to watch him do more than we ever see on medical shows (thinking more of efforts on the new “Resident” TV show? No chance.
Absolutely going to watch!!! Love medical shows and Ryan Eggold!!
I’m a huge fan of Ryan Eggold! I will watch anything he’s in

Yes I plan to give it a try. Big fan of Ryan Eggold.
tired of medical shows tired of the need to film in New York so often. I see articles that make a big deal when something is actually not filmed in LA or New York. city of Truth nothing personal about this show I’m just tired of TV and the industry. the entertainment industry has disappointed me so much it’s always bittersweet…so have fun to those that want to see this show nice that you got something else to look forward to..I’ve just been burned too many times when it come to this industry over the last couple of years
Yes, plan on checking out this series. The cast is solid and versatile and the directing and production support is high level. Doubt this will turn out to be a medical soap opera like Grey’s Anatomy or the really awful Code Black.
