Prodigal Son just aired its first season finale, so what’s next? Recently, creators Sam Sklaver and Chris Fedak spoke with Deadline about the future of the FOX TV show.
The thriller stars Tom Payne as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist whose father is a notorious serial killer. The cast also includes Michael Sheen, Bellamy Young, Lou Diamond Phillips, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, Halston Sage, and Keiko Agena.
Although FOX has not announced a season two renewal for Prodigal Son, creators Sam Sklaver and Chris Fedak do have ideas for another season. The two told Deadline they’d like to explore other characters’ perspectives:
But I also think we could see it through Jessica’s viewpoint. To a smaller extent, Gil’s. Everyone who is in Martin’s life, the idea at the core of this show is what if your father was a serial killer but I’m just as fascinated by the idea of what if your husband was a serial killer. So, I do think, we’re so blessed with Bellamy, Halston and Tom, this Whitly family, we can focus on so many aspects of them and we know that our actors can deliver with such high calibre, we can’t really do any wrong, hopefully.”
And fans don’t have to worry about Gil. Sklaver and Fedak want Lou Diamond Phillips back for season two:
From our perspective, that’s a story that we’re going to follow next season with regards to Lou. Lou Diamond Phillips is an amazing actor and national treasure, so we would be real dummies, not to bring him back for season two.”
What are the chances of a renewal from FOX? The two creators say they are “cautiously optimistic.”

OH MY GOSH…. my boyfriend and I are OBSESSED with Prodigal Son…..PLZZZZZZ have a Season 2…. that was an incredible season finale…. we as fans NEED to see how it continues to play out!

This show is absolutely dynamic! I love this show. Please give it more then just another season. I doubt two seasons will be enough. This show keeps me in suspense and always looking forward to the next episode.

Lou Diamond Phillips isn’t just a National Treasure for the U.S. He’s a Worldwide Treasure for everyone. I’ve been watching his movies & TV shows since I was a kid in the 80’s. I’ll always remember him as Chavez in Young Guns & Ray in Disorganized Crime which is a criminally underrated classic. I hope we get at least a Season 2 of Prodigal Son just so I have some more Lou to watch every week or if that doesn’t happen hopefully he gets a good main character role in another show. More Lou is always good.

This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. I was on the edge of my seat for the season final episode. I hope they continue the show. The actors are so impressive, and the characters are so interesting you just can’t stop watching and guessing what will happen next. The subject matter of this show is fascinating and the actors are so intense you feel their inner pain. Please continue this show.
