The doctor is out. The USA Network series, Royal Pains, will be ending after its upcoming eighth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comedy-drama stars Mark Feuerstein as an ER doctor who relocates to the Hamptons as an on-call physician for wealthy clients. The series also stars Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, Ben Shenkman, and Henry Winkler.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a complete shock. Ratings for Royal Pains have decreased over the past few seasons, with the last season only receiving an average of around 1.45 million viewers per episode.
Additionally, we reported earlier that the series’ lead, Feuerstein, has been cast in FOX’s upcoming Prison Break reboot series.
The final and eighth season of Royal Pains will premiere on May 18th at 10 p.m. It will include the series’ 100th episode and a special musical episode with Cloris Leachman.
From showrunners Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch, in a press statement:
It’s with great sadness, but even greater thankfulness, that we prepare for our final summer sunsets as Royal Pains comes to an end. We couldn’t have imagined a more talented and dedicated writers’ room, cast, or crew, and we couldn’t have asked for better partners than USA Network and Universal Cable Productions. We want to thank Bonnie Hammer, Chris McCumber, Jeff Wachtel and every other member of our network and studio family for tirelessly supporting us over eight magical seasons, and more importantly, for giving us the opportunity to complete this series on our own terms. We’ll always have The Hamptons.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Royal Pains? Are you sad to see it go? Will you watch the last season?
I will really miss this show. It is a great show. Why do all the good ones get cancelled! Is there anyway that it can stay on.
I am very sad to see this show go. I have watched every episode with my husband and knowing that there is only two more episodes left is quite depressing. Seems like all the shows I like to watch are getting cancelled. I have enjoyed this show though. Thank you to the actors that made is a wonderful program to watch!
Yes I will definitely miss the series. I can’t believe it’s going off the air- I have watched every episode. The ratings probably would not have dropped if it had stayed on consistently. These breaks between were frustrating
Sorry to see Royal Pains end. I have loved it.
I loved the characters, the stories, the quirkiness of the show. I’m really sorry to see the end. Thanks to all the actors who made it so special.
I felt the writers got tired and seemed to never get beyond being awed by the rich. Also the way seasons were delayed didn’t show much respect for their fans. Seemed that no one was really interested in working hard to make the show more interesting. I like Shenkman to most.
Meant to say deserve to be canceled!
I can’t believe that they are canceling Royal Pains! I guess it doesn’t glorify enough sex, drugs, or violence for the networks! I am done with USA! I am sick of watching shows that glorify drug lords, drug use, killing, etc. And if you think that is all people want to see you are so wrong! I hope that some other network picks up this show because it is a great show and doesn’t dense to be canceled!
This is my favorite show on TV. I think it’s a big mistake. Quality TV is sorely missing today and this show is quality. I hope they change their decision. If they don’t, I want to thank those involved with Royal Pains for all of the enjoyable hours spent with them.
Sad this is ending. I LOVE this show. It is a delight to watch and I’ll miss it.
it is one of my favorite shows and i am very sad that it is ending.
I just LOVE this show!!! It’s bright, cheerful, relaxing and an overall delight to watch. Y’all run the ratings again, I cannot believe it’s correct and the show is ending while some others are still on air. KMT!!!
I loved these characters. They put a human face on the medical profession and will be missed.
don’t want to miss the end
Can’t believe this show is being cancelled!!!!!! it is one of the only decent shows on the air. Clean show, clean drama. I can’t believe it is going. Hope there is some advertising so I don’t miss the
