HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES… POP TEAMS UP WITH EXECUTIVE PRODUCER JOHN LEGEND’S GET LIFTED FILM CO. AND SHARP ENTERTAINMENT FOR A SECOND SEASON OF “SING IT ON”
Eight Episode Docu-Series Returns With New Teams As They Compete To Win the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella
LOS ANGELES, CA – January 11, 2016 – The real-life journey of the country’s most dynamic collegiate a cappella groups will take center stage in a second season of SING IT ON, Pop’s original television docu-series executive produced by renowned singer-songwriter John Legend, along with his production partners at Get Lifted Film Co., Sharp Entertainment and its parent CORE Media Group, co-producers of award-winning hit shows “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”
This season, SING IT ON follows five new collegiate a cappella teams competing in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA): Faux Paz (University of Maryland), Off The Beat (University of Pennsylvania), One Note Stand (The University of Texas at Austin), S#arp Attitude (University of Massachusetts), and Hexachords (University of Massachusetts). Each of these talented groups have their own obstacles to overcome, but they all share the same goal: to win the coveted Championship Title at this year’s ICCA Finals.
“Competing in collegiate a cappella provided building blocks for my career as a performer and started the foundation of life-long friendships,” said Legend, a former member of UPenn Counterparts, which made it to the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Finals in 1997. “SING IT ON captures all of the emotion and excitement of the ICCA competition, in addition to covering the personal stories and friendships that make a cappella a true community.”
“This season of SING IT ON will capture a moment when collegiate a cappella is bigger and more exciting than ever,” said Amanda Newman, Executive Director, Varsity Vocals. “Our 20th anniversary season is our biggest yet, featuring 50 competitions, 355 college groups, and more than 5,000 singers in the tournament but of course … only one will win.”
“We are thrilled to bring back our fan-favorite series, SING IT ON, for a second season on Pop. A cappella continues to grow its fan base with groups like Pentatonix hitting #1 on the Billboard 200 chart last year, and a Pitch Perfect 3 movie on the way,” said Paul Adler, Senior Vice President and Head of Original Programming and Development, Pop. “We hope viewers will continue to discover and root for our collegiate singing teams, and fall in love with both their talent and personal stories the way we have at Pop.”
The second season of SING IT ON will feature eight episodes. Production begins this month and the Pop original series is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2016.
SING IT ON is produced by Sharp Entertainment, a division of CORE Media Group, with Matt Sharp, Teri Wagner Flynn and Kallissa Miller serving as Executive Producers. ICCA owner Amanda Newman serves as Co-Executive Producer. John Legend, Ty Stiklorius and Mike Jackson of Get Lifted Film Co. also serve as Executive Producers.
