Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Terriers is the kind of TV that we need! Good writing, terrific acting, interesting story lines.
Too bad that the executives didn’t give it a chance to catch on. It joins a long list of (IMHO) interesting and offbeat shows that were cancelled too soon such as “Maximum Bob”; Cupid (The original).
Just found out that Terriers is cancelled. I loved that show, couldn’t wait week after week, it needs to be put back on. Quit taking off the good shows. What’s next? SOA, Justified? These are great shows. Maybe if you would have advertised a bit more about it people would have watched it, but from what I see lots of people were watching it. FX has put out some great TV shows compared to some of the mundane shows on local channels especially with all the reruns that are done.
I pretty pissed! It was such a great show, this is a mistake FX has made. With better marketing people woul have known the show existed, just like Its Always Sunny in Phili; I didnt know that was on tv til the 4th season and its fing BRILIANT!
Get it together FX bring it back!!!
This was such a great show. FX really dropped the ball on this one. Remember those commercials for the show before it aired that was just the little dogs jumping over a wall w/ grafiti word Terriers in the back ground. Look I am the target Demo for this show, caucasion male 32 years old, this was aimed at me. Didn’t watch a second of it until I read Alan Sepinwalls Review and checked it out, it was great, got hooked, caught up online. Wasn’t in from the begining because I had no idea, none what it was about. I… Read more »
Ken hit the nail on the head. I was a great show, great dialog, outstanding characters and never a cookie cutter script.. Bad move on FX’s part. Hope that another Net work will pick it up.
I CAN NOT believe I just read of your decision to CANCEL the show! What a crock! I just had REALLY gotten SO into it, of all other shows, it was top 2 I HAD to be home to watch or at least record to see what happened that week!! Even the Intro song brought such strong attention, I look for any news about Terriers every time I hear the recent Insurance commercial that sounds JUST like their opening! I had JUST gotten friends informed and interested at last few episodes, but they felt similar and thought it was very… Read more »
I loved this show i can’t understand how it got cancled i hope they reconsider and pick it back up great show.
Son of a *****! They have to bring this show back! Is there anything we can do as fans to be heard and get this awesome show back? Jeez!
So bummed to hear that Terriers was cancelled! We loved that show. The good ones always die young. 🙁
My wife and i are extremely dissapointed with the decision to cancel the show. We watched every episode from the pilot to the last episode and thought it was an awesome show. I think you need to give the show a chance!!! If you keep removing shows right away , people aren’t going to waste their time watching when they know the shows won’t stay around long.
I loved terriers and am sad that it is not coming back. Couldn’t wait for the next episode week to week. FX is a tease, they put on a good show and then just yank it!
Please bring back terriers.
I know a lot of people who loved it and know other people who would have loved it but didn’t know it was on until it was near the end of the season.
You have to put a bit of money in to advertising.

It was my favorite of all new shows. Sorry to hear about its demise.
My husband and I are completely bummed out hearing of the
shows cancellation. This was a smart show with fantastic actors. I
don’t think it got marketed correctly and like lawtoja said, it
didn’t have a chance to catch on because no one knew about
it.
It’s a shame, my wife and I didn’t know it existed until I bumped into it by accident and then we were hooked. We only got to see the last 3 or 4 episodes.
Terriers failed because F/X doesn’t have enough exposure, not enough access to the viewing public. It was a fabulous show that I couldn’t get enough of and am seriously disappointed that it was cancelled; it was so much better than all the reality junk that seems to be the rule today.
Had this show been on a major network it would have been hugely sucessful. Hope that someone picks it up.
