Earlier this month, the peacock network debuted The Cape, a new superhero action TV show. Interestingly, they’ve put it in one of Heroes’ old timeslots. Will The Cape last as long as the Tim Kring series or will it be quickly cancelled instead?
The Cape stars David Lyons as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force. He finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Vince is then forced into hiding, leaving his wife Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) and son Trip (Ryan Wynott) behind. Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken their home city, Vince becomes “The Cape” — a vigilante and his son’s favorite comic book superhero. Others in the cast include James Frain, Keith David, Summer Glau, Dorian Missick, Martin Klebba, and Vinnie Jones.
The TV series debuted on Sunday, January 9th, with a special two-hour event. It attracted a decent 2.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.45 million total viewers. NBC reran the pair of episodes the following night. The next Monday, The Cape dropped a staggering 30% in the demo to a 1.8 rating and 6.22 million. Last night, the ratings fell another 11% to a 1.6 demo rating and 5.84 million viewers.

Currently, The Cape ranks as the 10th most watched scripted series on the network, tied with Community. It ranks as high as it does because of the premiere’s ratings and because NBC’s schedule as a whole isn’t doing all that well. For a series that’s been on the air for just three weeks, The Cape is already not in good shape. If the ratings continue to decline, it’s almost certain to be cancelled.
The network ordered 13 episodes but, for now, only eight of them are scheduled. Another struggling series, The Event, is scheduled to take back the timeslot on February 28th. If The Cape’s ratings continue to sink, one has to wonder if NBC will even bother to schedule the remaining five installments.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Cape? Do you think NBC should keep running it or just cancel it now?

I will watch anything with Summer Glau in it – Seriously though, I can see this show taking 6+ episodes just to get a rhythm and depth to the storyline. I say give it a chance.
What Isis said. I’m a comic book geek, and this is embarrassingly bad!
I do agree with Kristina. Maybe the Cape’s wife should die and let Summer Glau be the love interest. She is so hot.
Keep it. It is a refreshing change and I am a huge comic book character fan. The whole premise of the show is fantastic. The villains are real jerks and the hero is not a true superhero with ridiculous powers. I really think this show should be given a chance.
love the show!!! keep it, give it a chance to get a fan base! i am tired of all the standard cop shows and reallity shows, that have been poppin up lately!!! you want to cancel something cancel live to dance!!
People, The Cape is not based on any actual comic book. There IS no “The Cape” comic book. It’s just a show with a comic book-like premise, like the movie Darkman was. That said, it’s been decent so far. It would be interesting to see where it will go, but it probably won’t have the time it needs to really establish itself.
Horrible! Awful! Terrible! An absolute abomination! Please cancel this show and put it out of it’s misery!
I like it. Keep the show but ditch the family, they’re a drag.
PLEASE KEEP “THE CAPE”….it is a GREAT show and I love the cast
If shows keep making the mistake of compressing the pilot episode into 40 minutes they’ll never make it.. and don’t try and tell me that Tarot was a continuation of the pilot because it was most certainly not.
I am loving this show. You have to remember that this is based sort of on a comic book. Think 1960’s Batman with better effects. I have never heard of the comic, so I don’t know if it actually is following a story, but so far I see the proper build for a great show. KEPP THIS SHOW. I have ALWAYS been an NBC fan, watched most shows on the network, but in recent years (Like most of the 21st century) I have watched less and less of their prime time lineup. This show has brought be back for sure.
I’ve watched the first 3 episodes of this show and I think it blows. I give every show I’m interested in at least 3 strikes but I’m done with this show, it’s a shame because I really wanted to like it. I expect it to be canceled pretty soon.
I like the show. I’m not familiar with the comic, but I really like the hero and his “sidekicks” as well as the villains up to this point.
There IS no comic. I spent the week after the show premiered explaining to people that this terrible show is in no way affiliated with any comic ever made.
It is a good show!! NBC screwed up a couple of years ago with “Journey Man” That was an awsome show.. It needed to find an audiance.( Remember Cheers???) This show deserves a chance, with Smallville ending this could be the next superhero show
keep the cape it is fun.
