It looks like fans may have seen the final televised episode of The Cape last night. The NBC series has been struggling to get good ratings for some time and is one of the lowest-rated scripted serieson the network. Though it hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, The Cape is highly unlikely to be renewed for a second season.
A month ago, the network cut the first season from 13 to 10 episodes. When that happened, NBC also decided to delay the return of The Event by one week, presumably to allow the final two episodes of The Cape to air on February 28th. But that didn’t happen. Rather than pre-empt Chuck two weeks in a row (last night and next week), NBC just ran one episode of The Cape. Next week, The Event returns.
What about episode 10, the season (likely series) finale of The Cape? The network has apparently decided to release it online only. A small notice on the NBC site reads…
Flash: The creators of The Cape are prepping an exclusive episode just for online fans! Keep watching this site in the days ahead to see a full-length special episode.
There’s no word yet as to when the episode will be released but we’ll keep you posted.
What do you think? Does it matter to you that NBC won’t air the finale on television? Do you think it will be back for season two?
UPDATE: A network rep has confirmed that the finale will be released online only, sometime in March.

The Cape is one of the most entertaining shows I have watched in years. Escapist TV fare that so fondly recalls Batman of the 1960’s. For those who complain about script holes, etc. please stop. Even the Oscar winning movies from the other night have this problem! My gripe (and the main reason I watch virtually zero network TV) is that NBC is moving the final episode filmed to online. Even if they buried it on a Saturday night at 10:00PM, at least show some respect to your customers (and your advertisers) and show it on TV. No wonder NBC… Read more »
Joe… you made it further than I did. I watched the first hour of the pilot and bailed. This show would have been awful in the 80’s. How it even made it to air in this day and age baffles me.
I agree. I really wanted to like the show so I gave it plenty of chances and I just couldn’t do it. I wanted to bail during the pilot as well but I figured it might have gotten better but to me it just kept getting worse and worse so I had to bail.
It’s because the show wasn’t great, it actually stunk. I tuned out after the 4th episode. It was a complete waste of time.
The networks are driving people batty with all this not knowing, skipping, and then ending a series without finishing it off..What about people that do not have a computer. How will they see the final epi.????
Gee, what a great show. I will really miss it. I was totally a surprise to find out it had been cancelled. Please bring it back…….. Much better than the EVENT.
why canel such a great show? it must be because theres not enough mushey stuff in it.
it’s ashame, is a pretty good series, it just needed better marketing, it is different from what else is on broadcast tv right now, networks never give time for a series to grow even if may struggle for a bit,, nothing on tv but reality shows and police pocedural dramas, i will miss it, hopefully it will get a home video release…
Horrible move! My demographic :male/white 35-40, upper/mid-class (whatever that means-): I watch . NFL football. And 24. Until it was done. So the Cape and Harry’s Law replaced 24, and although I can’t say the Cape was up to 24’s level I looked forward to it every week. Now, I have one less show to watch, yet all the garbage reality TV is still polluting the airwaves…either the world has gone mad, or dumb..or Eeveryone knows something I dont.
I’ll miss The Cape. It is good escapist TV. Much better than it’s competition.
i love watching this show. a pretty good original series and you don’t see too many of those these days. i agree, at least run a whole season. well, back to watching movies and house.
what a shame…it was an entertaining show – again, reality crap beats out good writing – UGH
I agree. all other shows on tv suck. Like how many law and orders do they have to make. i hate that show.
the cape and Heroes were the only good shows on tv.
This suck.
ya it matter they should of ran the whole season of the cape it’s a good show for adults and kids but ratings is all that matters so let take a good show off and put more reallity crap on stupid wake up abc don’t just look at rating
A long-time fan, I have so enjoyed seeing James Frain on my television for the past several weeks. I’ll miss “The Cape” (a clever and very entertaining show, by the way) mostly for that reason!

Too bad… as escapist fare, it wasn’t horrible. Cinematography was well done and Keith David’s character as the Carnival of Crime ringleader was engaging. Would like to say the show deserved a better time slot, but this is NBC and there probably isn’t a better time slot.
