In its first season, The Orville TV ranked as a top-five FOX TV series. Was that just beginner’s luck or, can it soar to new Nielsen ratings heights in the second season? Will The Orville be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A FOX science-fiction dramedy, The Orville stars Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, and Mark Jackson. The action-adventure series centers on Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), of The U.S.S. Orville, and First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki) — his ex-wife. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
4/26 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: The first season of The Orville on FOX averaged a 1.25 rating in the 18-49 year-old demographic and 4.33 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season on FOX?
*5/11/19 update: FOX has renewed The Orville TV show for a third season.
It is a fun show for we who enjoy our sci fi. A good blend of comedy and drama, while examining the human condition. And, it’s the only one on a broadcast network, unlike the current “pay to watch” Star Trek on CBS. I work on Thursday evenings so am glad to be able to steam it online when I am at home.
It must be renewed! It’s so great. Just a fantastic show.
It must be renewed! It’s so great.
I’ve been very pleased by the show and would atleast enjoy seeing a 3rd season come along. I always look forward to watching the show, even when I’m a little late sometimes. If they took it further than a 3rd, I’d still be pleased. For such a good show though, just one more season would be fitting I would think. Things haven’t really been ‘closed’ in the show, so if there was only one more season, they could atleast stuff some completion in to it.
If Orville continues to be a bland TNG clone instead of returning to the humor from the first season, then I hope it gets canceled.
The 1st season humor was sophomoric at best, the 2nd season was more mature on many levels and the social commentary is far more sophisticated.
I very Much want to see a season 3 and beyond if possible. I’m a trekker and this is right up my alley.
I agree 100 percent this show Rocks. I’m so ready for a 3rd season. We don’t need another show to do with doctors, police, or fireman that stuff is old. There is a meaning on every episode if you can figure it out.
Love the show. They seem to always start the season with a boring episode then they go through the roof with excitement. The war of the robots episode was the best so far. Like watching a blockbuster movie.
Please renew the Orville – we really enjoy this show!
Please continue The Orville. I can barely wait each week for the next episode!
It usually takes about three seasons for a show to find it’s groove. Season 1 was comedy, season 2 is drama, Season 3 should be a good mix of both, and that’s when it gets really good. I hope they don’t cancel it now. This is the Star Trek we’ve all been waiting for.
I hope the Fox network would renew “The Orville” for season three. If not, then I hope ABC–20th Century Fox Television’s new corporate sibling–would pick it up.
MacFarlane shouldn’t have skipped a season the American memory is too short.hate to lose a good showw
The Orville is the best show on television. I hope it runs another 20 years.
I love this show. I always log on to Hulu to watch it the next day without annoying commercials. It’s only one of 3 shows I watch.
Please renew The Orville for Season 3! It’s the most refreshing show I’ve seen in a long time. I hope it’s on for many years to come!!
