The Castle series ran for eight seasons and performed very well for ABC in the ratings. Nathan Fillion’s current series, The Rookie, isn’t a big hit but has already had a longer run than most shows. Will it outlast Castle? Will The Rookie be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A police drama series, The Rookie TV show stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin Jr., Melissa O’Neil, and Eric Winter. The series follows the experiences of John Nolan (Fillion), a middle-aged divorced man from Pennsylvania. He owns a construction company but decides to give up his old life to pursue a new career as a police officer in the Los Angeles Police Department. He graduates from the Police Academy and becomes the oldest rookie on the force. He works with Sergeant Wade Grey (Jones), training officers Angela Lopez (Diaz) and Tim Bradford (Winter), and fellow rookies Jackson West (Makin Jr.) and Lucy Chen (O’Neil). As season three begins, John nears the end of his training and must come to terms with the choices he made in pursuit of the truth.

What do you think? Do you like The Rookie TV series on ABC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
*5/14/21 update: The Rookie has been renewed for a fourth season on ABC.
I came here and was totally shocked by comments, because I AGREE COMPLETELY with the feedback regarding the 3rd season. Me and my wife liked the show since the beginning, cast was sympathetic, plots entertaining and a bit goofy. But through Season 3, I feel like someone is trying to push some agenda down my throat with no lube. Thank you for 2 good years then, I will invest my time and money into something else, something that I enjoy, content that doesn’t hate on me and doesn’t think that I’m stupid. I will remember 2021 as a year of… Read more »
I agree!
This show has really gone downhill
This show is so over. The SJW theme has done it in. The last two shows were horrible. Cancelled.
not even bringing Bones in could save this show, a shame, I loved season 1, liked season 2 a lot, done with it
Please do not cancel the Rookie the show is pretty good. Myself and my mother who is 83 enjoy the show. There are not to many good shows anymore
I managed to stick with it until episode 6, when pretty much all Nolan did was anguish about whether to tell his fellow students he was a cop and then got a BLM ear-bashing when he didn’t. It’s just not funny anymore, so I’ll dig out my Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue and The Wire dvds to remember how great American cop shows used to be.
Back to castle re runs
We really like the show but this season has been terrible with all the loud, back ground production music overpowering the show. You can’t even hear the actors speak at times. Waste of a good show with this music ruining it.
This used to be a great series, exploring the story a man who is finally taking control of his life instead of being dragged around. The characters were evolving, there were some great plots – and then it became political – I saw that coffee cup a lot in s03e02 – it was insulting. This is no longer entertainment, and I get to vote with my wallet. I’m not watching this any longer.
Agree with others regarding Hollywood’s political commentary. They are so out of touch. I always loved Nathan Fillion, but not after his vocal political views on Social Media. Stopped following him, and stopped watching.
Me too. I saw he is close friends with Trudeau and that explains the show going fulll sjw
Like others, you took an excellent Cop show and this season decided to use it to share your political views. I really enjoyed The Rookie, but will watch my rather large collection of videos a hundred times over before I allow Hollywood to lecture me on morality and how I should think or feel about an issue. I will no longer be watching The Rookie. So sad. You should have stayed with entertainment.
Totally agree with these comments. This is the only show we have watched on “regular tv” but we just end up shaking our heads for Season three and it’s political agenda. It used to be a good cop show and Nathan, as always was great. Plus – can we please stop bashing men ?!? I’m a woman and I’m pretty sick of it. How bout a lil r-e-s-p-e-c-t for EVERYONE !
We LOVED Castle and really started to warm up to The Rookie. Then season 3 hit. Episode 1 was GREAT but been all downhill since then. Last show, I went to bed half way through and the wife didn’t finish watching it. The focus now seem to be on subliminal messages about the plight of minorities and people of color and not solving crimes and catching the bad guy. And how about the white systemic racist cop? Could they have found anyone more white (or smug)? lol Maybe you’re right and I’m wrong. Hope you find whoever you are targeting… Read more »
As a retired police officer I find it totally unrealistic and far too PC. The cast is very good
but would be great if they acted like real police do.
Totally Agree!
Get woke, go broke.
was enjoying this show but that’s enough for me
Love this show. – Great story line and keeps you wanting more. Keep the show coming.
Great season opener. The writers are doing a nice job developing the characters and storylines. I’m ready for more.
