TV show description:
A TV show adaptation of the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name, The Son is a Texas period drama that follows three generations of the McCullough family. The series features the metamorphosis of Eli McCullough (Brosnan).
The family patriarch, Eli, changes over the years from an affable innocent into a conniving killer. After losing everything on the wild frontier, Eli resolves to build a lasting ranching and oil dynasty and, in time, grows exceedingly wealthy.
Eli’s eldest son Pete (Garrett) has always labored in dear old dad’s shadow. He longs to be his own man and yet still make his father proud.
Pete’s headstrong daughter Jeannie (Lucas) worships her grandfather. Regardless of the times, and the fact that she’s living in a man’s world, Jeannie has no intention of living only for marriage and motherhood.
Eli is a brutal man, particularly in dealing with his rival, Spanish neighbor Pedro Garcia (Bardem). In pursuit of power, Eli sparks events reaping ramifications which ripple throughout the generations.
In flashbacks, the drama also tells the story of young Eli (Lofland) and Comanche war chief Toshaway (McClarnon), who served as his father figure. Throughout, The Son delves into the rise of the McCullough family empire.
Series Finale:
Episode #20 — Legend
Young Eli is forced into a life-changing decision in 1852. In 1916, Eli wages a final war with Standard Oil, forcing a confrontation with Pete.
First aired: June 29, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like the The Son TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Great cast & Texas story. The plot could move a little faster. Keep it o. Better that most shoes.
I like the show very much & it is a great cast, particularly Pierce Brosnan. I particularly like the back & forth between Eli’s early days with the Indians & his adult life. Looking forward to seeing how things evolved. I hope the show is continued for at least another Season if not more.
Love the story line and the history content. I look forward to each episode. Please renew for another season!
Love the show! Wish there was more show and less commercials but still worth the watch. Keep it coming.
Love it…….keep on bringing more episodes
This is a nice change to all reality shows that air nowadays. The show is a glimpse back in time for an hour in our years gone by. I also have not read the novel, but the series have many of my friends and I watching each week. Please renew..
Love the show. We look forward to it all week. Please, Please renew the program.
Please renew this series and keep it going. We enjoy it very much. Something different and an interesting time period. TOO MANY commercials is our only complaint, so we record it and watch it in better storyline time.
The Son is a very good and interesting tv drama. The characters and actors portraying them are doing a great job allowing the audience to get involved with each one of them. It should be renewed giving us a chance for something different in watching this period piece.
Love it, better than anything else on tv.
Please renew the Son. I love Westerns and they are non-existent on TV now.
Not having read the book I’m quite happy with the series! And happy with Pierce Brisbane too! I have enjoyed it and hope it continues. Interesting premise and time frame.
How to ruin an award winning novel: 1. Chop it into small pieces which can’t engender continuity of plot and character development, 2. Fill it with more commercials than the superbowl, 3. Ignore the fact the readers can do arithmetic and have an actor who looks maybe 65 to play an 80+ year old patriarch, 4. Portray a Tejano family in a dark light for at least 3 episodes without the books backstory which provides much needed context.
I like the show’s examination of transition periods in American history. It’s like a grittier version of “Dallas” that improves the storyline via showing how the characters’ lives shaped them into the people with the behaviors you see. And I like Pierce Brosnan as an actor. Hope it’s around for a while!
This is the best western for a very very long time! Don’t ever cancel this show!!
Awesome!
