Is all well that ends well? TNT has cancelled its Will TV show after just one season of ten episodes. The decision to cancel the young Shakespeare drama series comes on the heels of last night’s Will season one and unintentional TV series finale episode, “Once, Bright Angel.” The first season of Will premiered on TNT on July 10, 2017.
The Will TV series stars Laurie Davidson as William Shakespeare. The TNT cast also includes Olivia DeJonge, Jamie Campbell Bower, Mattias Inwood, Ewen Bremner, Colm Meaney, William Houston, Lukas Rolfe, Max Bennett, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
Will: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Will averaged a 0.11 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 392,000 viewers. It is the lowest rated of the scripted TNT TV shows we’ve been tracking.
Deadline has confirmed the Will TV series cancellation. You can binge-watch the enter first and only season of Will on the TNT website.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Will TV show? Should TNT have cancelled or renewed it for a second season? Sound off, in the comments.
I hope Netflix picks it up. It was something different, that I enjoyed because it was different. TNT sent a SUMMER series at 11:00 PM. No wonder ratings were bad.
Found the show late in the game, but absolutely loved it! Very sad to see it go!
I am BEYOND angry at seeing this. I LOVED this show. The actors, the subject matter, the costume design and set design was all sooooooo amazing. I really hope that Netflix or someone else picks it up. Actual TV ratings don’t mean much anymore. UGH!
Will is one of the few imaginative series on TV, a refreshing and intriguing modern interpretation of life in Shakespeare’s London. It has everything: great acting, colorful costumes, gritty surroundings, an intense love story, an inside look at The Burbage theatre company and possible inspirations for Shakespeare’s writing , religious conflict, and even a tormented Christopher Marlowe. I was eagerly anticipating future seasons, but since that is not to be, I certainly hope it comes out on DVD so I can watch the episodes over and over again.
This is pitiful! Tnt screwed up once again. They should have advertised it more and it would have had better ratings! I didnt know about it because i dont watch tnt (because they have a tendency to cancel great shows). I just happened upon it on demand.
I hope netflix picks it up. Is there a place to petition for it?
Such a fantastic show. Totally lucked into discovering it and was hooked from the start. Fantastic actors, great writing, great sets and wonderful costumes. I have no idea what the production cost to make but it was worth every penny. Such a huge loss. I wonder if there is any chance that it’ll be picked up by another network? Please reconsider your decision to cancel the show!
Although I was fully expecting WILL to be canceled I am so disappointed. This was the first show I was excited about in a long time. The acting, writing, sets and costumes were superb. TNT handled – or rather mishandled – it so badly it seems as though they never expected it to succeed. The 18-49 demographic would NEVER care about this show. Americans in particular aren’t interested in Shakespeare – their eyes glaze over at the mention of his name. If this show had been slanted differently e.g. toward Christopher Marlowe, every young fan of Jamie Campbell Bower would… Read more »
That’s a bit of a generalization about Americans and Shakespeare. There a many of us who love the Bard.
I’ve loved Shakespeare since the first time I read him in junior high school. I do not care for the comment that ‘Americans don’t care about Shakespeare’. Such blanket generalizations are rarely accurate. I am mad for this series and terribly saddened by it’s cancellation. The dialogue was beautifully written, the intriguing bits of invention ( such as Will coining the word ‘bedazzled’) were genius. This series provided manna from heaven for those literate among us who hunger for of greater pith than the reality tv pap that passes for entertainment now. TNT made a grave error, both in absence… Read more »
I’ m from Germany and I watched every episode. There are not much productions that catches my attention that deeply…I really LOVED watching WILL and it’s been extremely fascinating to see the appearance of Marlowe every single time. Fantastic job Mr. Campbell-Bower! So sad not to see them all again!!!!
I hope the network changes its mind and gives Will a second season.
Very creative view of history. Very entertaining. Sorry to see it cancelled
Will is one of the highest quality shows on tv, all-around amazing: the writing, acting, production quality, all of it! Give it a chance, it’s only been on for TWO months!! The late time slot might make it difficult for the audience to find it, but it seems necessary due to the content. If it can be (renewed first) moved up to 10pm, it might find a stronger audience. More consistent advertising in earlier times could have helped it too. Please reconsider TNT!!! BIG MISTAKE letting it go!
So incredibly sad to see this is being cancelled!! My wife and I really loved this show, we actually bought iT after episode 1.
Same here. Husband and I really liked the show.
Why shut off one of great original shows on tv these days. I don’t watch a lot of tv but this was one show I didn’t miss each week – well written, acting was great, and a different type of tv show
What a mistake TNT!

Not happy with this decision! This was a clever show with a great cast! Poorly done on your part TNT! You took it out of its time slot and ruined any chance for a following to build! Laurie Davidson was brilliant as the Bard! This was a well written show and will be missed!
