Xena: Warrior Princess aired on syndication for six seasons between 1995 to 2001. The series launched the career of actress Lucy Lawless, who returned to the small screen on Saturday night with the premiere of Ash vs. Evil Dead on Starz.
At the premiere for the new series, Lawless addressed the recent revival buzz surrounding Xena. Rumors of the reboot began over the summer. There is not much known, but Spin-off Online reported that “Evil Dead creators Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert inked a deal to allow NBC to develop a new Xena series.”
Would Lawless want a Xena reboot? She teased the possibility by saying:
“If I had my druthers, it would be me in a one-off comedy with Renee O’Connor, Bruce Campbell, and Ted Raimi. Just a ridiculous kind of… Do you remember the “Carry On” movies? They were British. It would be an American version of, I don’t know, some insane, just getting-the-band-back-together for some insane mission that we’re all on. We’re forced to bring one another back. An unusual alliance. We have to solve a great problem.
That would be my dream scenario. I would not play Xena, probably, in a TV series because it’s just the physicalities. But I don’t know — it’s amazing what they do with stunt people these days.”
Lawless was also asked what she knows about the project, but she does not know much. There is no plot or writing work completed yet.
Would you want Xena back on the small screen? Tell us what you think.
Deffinately !I enjoyed the show immensly!, it thrust woman power (if you want to fraze it that way )to the for front! , very strong message is sent by a beautiful woman heroine able to fight cold calculating warlords in a time where if you didnt stand up for yourself ( let alone others that couldnt fight for themselves) you were squashed!
It would be great to bring back the show, but not Xena, she died, but the spinoff can be continued from Gabrielle, showing how she has cope without Xena and have her daughters who she raised on the stories of her and Xena’s adventures, venture out on their own and follow in their mothers footsteps.
Xena was the show that made me understand how to be strong and powerful as a women. I practically grew up watching Xena and Gabrielle save the world.
I KNOW RIGHT! I grew up thinking the same thing, along with the fact she was my imaginary friend too! I was 5 when the show aired. Dont judge me
I loved the show when it was on and wasn’t happy when it ended! I would absolutely love XENA to return and Gabrielle also! Bring it back!!! I would love a full season or a return of the show! Either would be awesome for me!!!! Bring it back Lucy!
Xena was a drama (fighting/acrobatics/swordplay was merely a stylistic choice). You can set it in space or any other time. Xena and Gabrielle had many reincarnations.
I’m with Lucy with a fun one off.
I loved how it ended. A warrior’s way is death and Xena needed retribution for the evil person she was.
The core was about two women escaping their pasts and influencing each other’s lives.
Yes, a one off situation as Lucy explained.
Or set it in space or present day as a drama (non-fighting) with Lucy and Renee. In space you can convert physical fighting to shoot-outs (think Firefly).
Xena and Gabrielle are always reincarnated, so you can do a series based on their various other lives or focus on one life.
Or just leave it be and release Hercules and Xena on Blu-ray (in original aspect ratio and a widescreen version, like what the old Battlestar Galactica did).
Would far rather have a revival than a reboot too!!!
I want xena back to Lucy and Renee to
Yes it would be nice to have Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Connor return as Xena the show has an unfinish story to tell.the Warrior Princess and Queen of Amazon has given so many hope and identity and defining where you belong doesn’t matter as long as you are satisfy with who you are it take a a warrior to face the uncertainty in life not belonging because you gay a hero cannot die a suicide death wrong message to send, the ending needs a true meaning
Yes, I definitely want Xena back on the small screen. I would watch a Xena reboot in a heartbeat. I think revitalizing and bringing back the show itself would be awesome, even with new actors.
I would love to see Dena a
We don’t wanna a reboot with a new cast. We went a Xena Revival with Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Connor. There is a huge, international and eager fanbase begging for Lawless to pick up her sword again. It’s what the fans want! #XenaRevival
