Is The Biggest Loser over? According to the show’s resident doctor, Dr. Robert Huizenga, the NBC TV series has been cancelled after 17 seasons, The Daily Mail reports.
Hosted by Bob Harper, the reality competition show follows overweight contestants as they try to win a cash prize by losing the highest percentage of weight. The series’ last season finished airing in early 2016.
According to The Daily Mail, Dr. Robert Huizenga revealed The Biggest Loser was cancelled in recent court documents. The show’s resident doctor is in an ongoing legal battle with former contestant Joelle Gwynn, who accused trainer Bob Harper of providing contestants with illegal weight loss drugs.
NBC has not confirmed the show’s cancellation, but it wouldn’t be that surprising if The Biggest Loser has been axed. Ratings have been in decline over the past couple seasons, with the latest (season 17) bringing in an average rating of 1.06 in the 18-49 demo and only 3.518 million viewers. That’s a near 20% decline in viewership from the previous season.
What do you think? Do you watch The Biggest Loser? Do you think NBC should keep the show or not?
Yes, we’d love to see it come back. We’ve been wondering why it’s taken so long to air again. The last season, however, when Rachel Frederickson went WAY too far – losing almost 60% of her weight – kind of did the show in, I think. From 260 to 105 lbs. She looked like a skeleton! Jillian gasped when Rachel came out. People were shocked & started to ask questions “What happened? Wasn’t Rachel monitored?” Rachel’s response to everybody was that she wanted the prize money and was pretty much going to do whatever she needed to do to win… Read more »
That was and is a great show and reality. It was very entertaining, both happy and sad, and it gave the whole world the right things to do to take the best care of yourself. The contestants showed ways to improve and we all learned happy and sad things, about MANY THINGS. Some things even had nothing to do with out body. The losers got better, the people that watched it learned, “like me”, and I would love to see it again and again. Your Fan Dan The Man
I’d like to see the show continue. Very inspirational and motivational.
I would really love if you renewed this show! I’ve wanted to be part of the biggest loser for years but always have been nervous and embarrassed to do so! I know I need this show and I’m pretty sure a whole lot of other people need this show too! This show would would help me gain self confidence and would help me understand that it’s possible! If you are continuing it or renewing it please let everyone know! I would really like to get a chance to be less embarrassed of myself!
I loved this show! It made me feel happy and proud for all of the contestants no matter how much weight they lost. It can be a difficult battle without any support. Losing any amount of weight is healthy and makes a big difference in people’s lives. I am sad to see that the show has been cancelled. Good luck to everyone who needs to lose weight.
I think the show was an inspiration to lots of folks. I hope it gets renewed.
Big fan of the show. Greatly disappointed to hear its been cancelled.
Please keep the Biggest Loser.. love that show..
Please keep The Biggest Loser, I love this show! I’ve been watching since the beginning.
Best show on television
I think NBC needs something to replace The Biggest Loser, something new.
How about a new game show based on one of the British game shows?
Like The Crystal Maze, Tipping Point, 1000 Heartbeats, 5 Gold Rings, The Edge, Babushka, Mr & Mrs, Alphabetical, Cash Trapped, Bang on the Money, Keynotes, Elector Seat, Freeze Out, Golden Balls, Rebound, Countdown,
Fifteen to One, 5-Star Family Reunion, In It to Win It, Secret Fortune,
Win Your Wish List, Break the Safe, Breakaway, The Link
and The Whole 19 Yards.
The show should have ended a few years ago. Fat people lose weight then gain it back a few years later.
I love The biggest loser show. I use to watch it every season it would come on. Please don’t cancel the show. It was a great show.
I always liked watching the Biggest Loser. But it was best when both Jillian & Bob were the trainers.
