Last season, CBS introduced only eight new shows during the regular season. They cancelled three and renewed five of them. How will their new programming do in the ratings this time around? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, American Gothic, Angel From Hell, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, BrainDead, Code Black, Criminal Minds, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Life In Pieces, Limitless, Madam Secretary, Mike & Molly, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Rush Hour, Scorpion, Supergirl, Survivor, Two Broke Girls, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Lot of shows kept with lower rating than Mike &Molly! I don’t get CBS (no cable etc, just HD indoor antenna), but get KPTV, so get to watch it 6 nites/wk, 6-7 pm.. It’s Family Funny, down to earth humor, (gut-laughing) has lessons learned & values. No sense to cancellation!! Depicts real people, not stupid “Reality”! Hope ABC, NBC or KPDX, KVAL pick up. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
They messed it about changed it’s timeslot and days and yet Person of Interest ranks above Elementary that got a full season renewal, I know CBS not owing it is a problem for the network but really you should listen to your viewers.
I wish I was still getting all of these things in my e-mail. I guess I made a grave error by telling them I was NOT in their target demographic. Too bad since most of us senior watch way more tv than the younger set.
The emails are still being sent out. I suggest checking your spam folder.
I wish sites would also post the 25-54 demos….CBS in particular, since their stated target demo is 25-54. It would be interesting to see the numbers in their target. For instance, did Code Black do better that Limitless in 25-54? Just a thought,
I absolutely love Elementary and never miss an episode. Jonny lee Miller is a superb actor and has perfected the role of Sherlock. Kudos to the supporting actors as well. Iam in the 50 and over age tv viewer range. Please keep us in mind, when making important decisions, as I believe we represent a large portion of tv viewers.
I’ve known for years that those of us above the 18-49 age group aren’t counted (some think our favorite “shows” are pain-relief commercials!) But, many of the action shows are just as exciting to us “old-timers”. Thanks again for renewing Hawaii 5-0! I’m 63, and I don’t miss an episode! BTW, just returned from Oahu! Guess why I’ve visited (twice!!)!!
Please get rid of the “reality” shows cancel survivor, undercover boss, would like to see the amazing race removed too!! they are definitely NOT non-scripted just fake garbage. If you keep them then Put those shows on Sunday so they can be messed up by football, golf and whatever other sport you let run overtime EVERY Sunday!!! Stop ruining good shows by putting them on Sunday nights. Will miss Good Wife glad Madame Secretary, Blue bloods, Hawaii made it. Keep Criminal Minds Beyond Borders Glad to see Cyber cancelled that was terrible to begin with. Should never have canceled CSI… Read more »
Wow it seems RTV haters always say the same thing that they can’t be real. How is TAR fake? Its litterally people racing around the world. Why would they fake that? how would they fake that?
RTV is the largest TV category today and is here to stay. They are cheaper because they have real people and not actors, they are unpredictable because the outcome is not predetermined, and they evolve because strategies become more complex over time.
Survivor, Big brother and TAR are real and better quality then the same generic crime investigation shows that are everywhere.
Supergirl needs to be renewed. Love the show, Love Melissa and Cast. We haven’t had a woman super-hero on TV in over 40 years going back to Wonder Woman. We need to change who can be a hero, it does always have to be a man. Please renew “SUPERGIRL”
Supergirl was renewed but is moving from CBS to the CW.
Out of the networks available to me as an antenna viewer I watch more CBS then any other channel. I am bummed about good wife ending that’s for sure. Haven’t even heard why. The best die young I guess. Anyway my more general point is that. I am so sick of so much violence and sports on TV. In the fall I heard that football is going to occupy prime time to nights a week. All though generally I don’t like violence supposevely for entertainment. There is so so much violence in the world these days I surely don’t want… Read more »
you know there is only one problem i have with all the ratings listings that CBS or ABC or NBC have there are a lot of people now that don’t have cable and they just stream stuff on Hulu or Netflicks so the numbers are of course going to drop on shows because of that so the networks to look into that and figure out a way to do ratings off of those websites to
Interesting that the 18-49 demo is supposed to be the important factor in renewals, but all the ones with a high audience total were renewed first, while show with a higher 18-49, but lower audiences are still awaiting their fate.
h,i i,am also a fan of super,girl to
Yes they will bring back supergirl season 2 yes they will. Renew supergirl season 2 yes.
Supergirl will be on CW next season.
Supergirl needs to be cancelled. They used my favorite show the Flash to boost their ratings. But even that show sucked. Plus the makeup they put on Banshee was awful. Put supergirl with her low self esteem having butt out of her needing a pep talk ass misery. Or let cw production crew take over on their channel.
No no not going to cw
Yes yes is going to CW.
Please keep supergirl on CBS? Please don’t cancel supergirl no don’t CBS no? Renew supergirl season two
What happened to Mike and Molly? I heard it was cancelled because Melissa McCarthy lost weight.. Can this be true?? Surely not in today’s world?
