The darkest timeline has come to pass. Variety reports that Yahoo has shut down its video streaming service, Yahoo Screen.
Launched in 2013, Yahoo Screen supported Yahoo’s syndicated video content, which included Saturday Night Live clips, and original series like Sin City Saints, Other Space, and the former NBC comedy, Community.
The news is hardly surprising. In 2015, it was revealed that Yahoo Screen had lost the company a reported $42 million. CFO Ken Goldman blamed the loss largely on Yahoo Screen’s original series. Any plans for more seasons of Community, Sin City Saints, or Other Space are likely cancelled.
According to Variety, Yahoo’s original content won’t be lost entirely. The series and syndicated programming will still be available to view on Yahoo.
What do you think? Did you watch any of Yahoo Screen’s original series? Why do you think the service failed?
Ouch! I was actually interested in Sim City Saints… Guess I’ll take it off my ‘Watch Later’ list on TVShow Time…
I had used the app a few times on my Roku, if I remember correctly, and it was very confusing in terms of the layout and accessibity.
