Designing Women is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and getTV has special plans for the series. They have a special marathon scheduled for Monday, and the series will begin airing episodes on the series on June 26.
getTV said the following about the series in an article announcing the anniversary plans:
“Designing Women was occasionally dismissed during its original run as a middle-aged variation on The Golden Girls, but it was so much more. The Women broke ground with frank stories about mature sexuality, extra-marital relationships, birth control, body image, and illness. A Season Two episode even features a HIV-positive character at a time when the disease was still taboo in mainstream entertainment. Because of this, Designing Women was unlike most other sitcoms of the era. A number of episodes may make you cry, but I mean that in the best of ways.”

I am on Cloud 9! Just discovered getTV and am so happy it broadcasts Designing Women. This was my favorite show in the late 80’s early 90’s. It had groundbreaking stories told with compassion and understanding. I only wish that dear Dixie Carter were still alive so that perhaps a reunion show could be made now in 2017. I look forward to the 30th anniversary marathon. Thank you getTV!
