Supergirl is branching out. TVInsider reports Melissa Benoist will guest on CW Seed’s upcoming TV series Freedom Fighters: The Ray.

The animated series is set in an alternate world called Earth X where the Nazis won World War II. The story centers on The Ray, a metahuman with light manipulation powers who teams up with other heroes against evil. Notably, The Ray will be the gay metahuman to headline a TV show.

On Freedom Fighters: The Ray, Benoist will voice Overgirl, the evil Earth X version of Supergirl. The animated series debuts this fall onCW Seed.

Melissa is so sweet, and so is her interpretation of Supergirl. It was fun to hear her voice records and see she’s capable of a darkness. I think she really enjoyed playing the bad guy for a bit!”
