Home Fires will continue but not on TV. According to The Bookseller, the cancelled ITV series will be continued as a set of books.
The UK drama, which aired on PBS in the U.S., followed the members of the Women’s Institute during World War II. The cast included Francesca Annis, Daisy Badger, Mark Bazeley, Leanne Best, and Samantha Bond. ITV cancelled the series last year after only two seasons.
Per The Bookseller, UK publishers Bonnier Zaffre have acquired the rights to three Home Fires novels. The books will pick up from the season two finale, and the first novel is slated for released as an e-book in July and as a paperback this fall.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Will you read the books?
We are SO SAD Home Fires is cancelled on PBS!!!! Wonderful story lines, action, characters and especially the actors. We wish we had known it was cancelled before we watched this season’s episodes so we could have been prepared. My husband and I have watched this series since the first season. It was so full of history. I will read the books but will miss SEEING the characters. It made history come alive.
I loved this series here in the US on PBS. Wonderful cast. They canceled Upstairs Downstairs the same way.
Knuckleheads! It takes awile for american audiances to see because of a delay. But there are 300 million americans in our market. Our stupid quick results networks have canceled good shows too because of poor timing and greedy network executives but at least we usually get a show to wrap up the story.
I would definitely read this series!!!! I am absolutely heart broken to discover it has been cancelled. I really do not understand. There is so much garbage on tv these days and when something very good comes along and it is cancelled, it makes no sense. Please, let there be some way to bring it back…
Yes, I will definitely be reading the novels. I only wish more showrunners would do this, as every show I enjoy seems to get cancelled just when I am coming to care what happens to the characters involved. I guess I am not in the typical demographic that tv is trying to please these days, which makes finding quality shows rather difficult.
Loved Home Fires. Unique. Disappointed it was cancelled. Although an avid reader, I won’t read the books. Not remotely the same.
I would love to read the book concluding the unfinished stories of Home Fires. I think it was a dirty trick to cancel the series leaving everyone hanging.

I LOVE the series – I especially enjoyed seeing some of my favorite actresses in the well-written drama and catching a glimpse of WWII life in a small English village. I will plan to read the books with the visions of the characters already so well established on TV in my mind; however, I am truly disappointed that the series was cancelled. As a viewer in the US, I hope the books will be readily available to us?
I was very engrossed in this series to the point I would think about the various characters during the day as though they were real people! I don’t know why it was cancelled-it was so well-done. I hope to read the books.
I loved the show but probably won’t read the books. It is summer and I won’t have time and when winter comes well who knows…I HATE that you have left us hanging without a conclusion!
I love to read and will see if I can find the books, BUT I LOVE the series and wish they wouldn’t have canceled it!! Every time a really good show comes on, it only lasts a couple of seasons and then its canceled. Darn it already!!!
I like to read ,so I will look for the books –but I’m mad that show is canceled!!!!! I think I should not waste my time again watching a PBS show, only to be canceled so soon!
Boy, I agree with that. I think maybe if a lot of people refuse to watch and support PBS, they might think again about cancelling decent shows!!!
PBS did NOT cancel the show, ITV in the UK did! Just as they cancelled Downton Abbey!
It isn’t PBS’s fault that the show was canceled. PBS airs a lot of British shows as part of Masterpiece. If you and others decide to boycott/not support PBS because of this, then PBS will be gone entirely. The government wants to cut funding for PBS, which means the only way that PBS will be able to continue to exist is if people donate to it. If PBS goes, then there will be no more Masterpiece at all. We won’t even get a chance to watch these great British shows on TV. We won’t get to watch anything else that… Read more »
Please do not cancel this wonderful series ! You should at least give us a finale conclusion! You will just leave us hanging. Its such a nice series. It is so well done with actors ,acting, costumes and story line .
Why does trashy shows keep getting renewed andthis one doesn’t?
I am SO VERY DISAPPOINTED that they have canceled “Home Fires”. It has been such a favorite of mine with such an enormously wonderful of cast. Canceling it makes absolutely no sense. ITV has made such a huge blunder.
Yes, I will read the books. But why cancel the show???
Such a quality program on so many levels. Cannot wait for the novels. Sad day for PBS.
