It was a big night on Sunday for Showtime’s Dexter and Homeland TV series. Both attracted more than two million viewers each, a first for the cable channel.
Here’s their press release:
SHOWTIME(R) BREAKS NETWORK RECORDS DELIVERING TWO BACK-TO-BACK ORIGINAL SERIES WITH OVER TWO MILLION VIEWERS EACH
HOMELAND Posts Series High Ratings With 2.07 Million Viewers At 10 PM
The one-two punch of the seventh season of DEXTER(R) and second season of HOMELAND continue to deliver impressive ratings for SHOWTIME, as the network marked the first time ever that two of its series have garnered over two million viewers each in one night.
DEXTER’s fifth episode attracted 2.28 million viewers at 9 p.m., its highest-rated episode since the season premiere (vs. 2.40 million) and up 5 percent vs. its prior week, despite facing tough competition on broadcast and cable, including Sunday Night Football and the final World Series game. For the night, the series delivered 2.81 million viewers, the biggest total night since the season premiere (2.93 million).
HOMELAND episode 5 delivered 2.07 million viewers at 10 p.m., up +19 percent vs. last week, drawing its biggest audience ever. The total night delivered 2.29 million viewers, its highest-rated night of the series.
I love Dexter and Homeland, and every new episode gets more intense every week for each show. Showtime provides quality programming, and it’s good to see that they are getting the attention they deserve. I usually watch both shows when I get home from the Sunday night shift at DISH. The huge amount of hard drive space on my DVR helps me keep up with shows when I have time for TV. It’s impressive that both shows attracted more than 2 million viewers each considering all the other choices on TV that night.
I have HBO and I would love to watch some of there shows, Dexter for instance. I really liked it that one season when they showed it on Broadcast TV. I just cant’t stand the bad language that they use. I know it’s all the rage, being realistic and all that stuff. I don’t know anyone who talks like that. Some bad language I can stand, but not every other word, so I give those shows a pass.
