Some mystery and magic is coming to FOX. Word is production has begun on the network’s new mystery drama, Houdini & Doyle.
The project comes from House creator David Shore and Canadian executive producers David Titcher and David Hoselton. It’s a co-production between Canada and the UK.
Houdini & Doyle will follow well-known magician Harry Houdini (Michael Weston) and Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Stephen Mangan) as they team up to solve a series of crimes in 1901 London. The story is based on a real-life friendship between the two.
The series is being described as an “Edwardian X-Files—with a sense of humour.”
Houdini & Doyle will begin airing on FOX in the U.S. in 2016, and it’s already been ordered for 10 episodes.
What do you think? Does Houdini & Doyle sound like something you’d watch?
Sounds like fun. Murdoch Mysteries with a similar idea of mixing real people and fictional characters is in its 9th season on cable and CCN.
Cancelled after 6 episodes, it’s the Fox way.
Oh god, this sounds awful. Mulder and Scully are fictional characters for a reason, imagine if Edison and Tesla went around solving crimes, how stupid would that be? If you are going to use real people, use real storylines, not plots like The X-Files.
