What does your gut tell you? Is this the beginning of the end for the Instinct TV show on CBS? Although originally, the episode “Long Shot” was supposed to air on Mother’s Day, it has been pulled from the schedule for May 13th and is being replaced by a second episode of 60 Minutes. Whether Instinct‘s season two renewal chances are the real long shot remains to be seen.
Instinct is also not scheduled to air on May 20th, but that had already been the plan. According to the network’s press site, new episodes are still slated for May 27th and June 3rd. Of course those weeks fall outside of Nielsen’s May Sweeps period, which this year runs from April 26th to May 23rd. Whether Instinct will be cancelled or renewed for a second season, it seems CBS may not have wanted it to further dilute the Sunday night ratings during Sweeps.
A CBS crime thriller, based on the James Patterson novel, Murder Games, Instinct stars Alan Cumming, Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews, and Sharon Leal. The drama centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured out of his peaceful retirement as a university professor and author, to help NYPD Detective Lizzie Needham (Novakovic) catch a serial killer.
Instinct: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Instinct is averaging a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.859 million viewers. Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’re tracking right now, Instinct currently ranks 21st when sorted by its demo ratings. It rises to ninth place, however, in terms of average total audience size.

Our family loves this show!Especially now that Dylan and Lizzie have come to a new understanding about how they do things and why. Having read Alan Cumming’s autobiography I can see how he can instill such deep emotion into the plots when they involve Dylan’s father. I hope that they don’t put too much of a CIA spin on the plot lines, as it decreases the plausibility of the stories. This show has compelling characters, but needs much better dialogue for the lead actress who could also use a character with more depth. Love the couple of Dylan and Andy. Do we get to learn mroe of their backstory as a couple?
I’m pleased to be able to see Alan Cumming regularly as he is one of my favorite actors. Whoever does his wardrobe is extremely talented, also. With so much tripe on TV now why would anyone consider canceling this show? It may not be Shakespeare but it’s certainly entertaining.

I tried to give the show a chance, but when the main male characters lifestyle was placed front and center I lost interest. As a married male, yes to a female and a Christian I turned it off and haven’t watched it since the first 10 to 15 mins of the first episode.
