While her virginity may be long gone, Jane is coming back. The CW has renewed its Jane the Virgin TV show for a fifth season, despite low (and further declining) ratings. Nielsen households aside, the comedy-drama continues to garner critical acclaim, and season five will move it into the neighborhood of the favored 100-episode mark.
A CW satirical telenovela, Jane the Virgin stars Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Ivonne Coll, Jaime Camil, and Justin Baldoni. Although saving herself for marriage, Jane’s (Rodriguez) life was turned upside down when she got pregnant via accidental artificial insemination. The fourth season kicked off after a time jump, with Jane drawing upon her grief to write a book about her love story with the late Michael (Bret Dier). She and Rafael (Baldoni) are now close friends, and their mischievous son Mateo (Elias Janssen) is a kindergartener.
Jane the Virgin: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of Jane the Virgin is averaging a 0.25 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 645,000 viewers. Compared to season three, it is down by 29% and 33%, respectively. Considering how Jane the Virgin stacks up against the other CW TV shows and the fact that it has accumulated a fair-sized syndication package, this show is lucky to have evaded cancellation.
The CW issued early renewals for a total of ten shows, today: Arrow, season seven; Black Lightning, season two; Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, season four; DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, season four; Dynasty, season two; The Flash, season five; Jane The Virgin, season five; Riverdale, season three; Supergirl, season four; and Supernatural, season 14. What do you think? If it were up to you, would The CW have cancelled or renewed its Jane the Virgin TV series for season five? Let us know, below.
I love this show! I just finished season 4 and was really surprised that there wasn’t a season 5 after that cliffhanger!! I would love to see this show continue on as it conveys many real life issues that I can follow with where I am today. It is incredible, and I really don’t want it to end. If season 5 is going to be the last, at least make it longer with a LOT of closure, because —as a loving fan— there are so many loose ends, and I would not be able to live in the unknown!!
My husband and I love watching Jane the Virgin. We hope it continues.
Season 5 a MUST! I caught on to the show late and now I’m sad to see it go. I could do without the political agenda, but I love the show. Maybe ditch the politics and see if that would have boosted the ratings?? Food for thought ♀️
Yes please give us closure at least on Season 5! I’ve had many laughs with this show and will definitely miss it!
